A shocking incident of extreme road rage has shaken Bengaluru, where a minor traffic accident escalated into a fatal confrontation. A couple, driving a car, allegedly chased down a motorcycle rider for approximately two kilometers following a small collision and deliberately rammed their vehicle into the bike, resulting in the rider’s death. The pillion rider was critically injured in the horrific event.

Fatal Pursuit Sparked by Broken Mirror

The incident took place in the Puttanahalli area late on the night of October 25. According to police reports, the altercation began when the motorcycle, ridden by the deceased, Darshan, and his friend, Varun, brushed against the car being driven by the accused couple, Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma. The minor contact reportedly resulted in the car’s side mirror being damaged.

A heated argument ensued between the two parties at the scene. However, instead of resolving the matter, the couple, allegedly enraged over the damage to their vehicle, decided to pursue the bikers.

2-Kilometer Chase Ends in Homicide

Police investigations reveal that the couple, Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma, began aggressively chasing Darshan and Varun’s motorcycle for nearly two kilometers. The pursuit ended when the car driver reportedly intentionally hit the bike with force, causing a severe collision.

The impact was so violent that Darshan and Varun were both thrown onto the road. Darshan succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Varun was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Attempt to Destroy Evidence and Subsequent Arrests

Following the crash, the accused couple immediately fled the scene. In a disturbing attempt to destroy evidence, they were later seen on CCTV footage returning to the location, allegedly wearing masks. They reportedly collected the broken parts of their car before quickly driving away again.

Initially, the case was registered as a hit-and-run. However, based on detailed CCTV footage and forensic evidence, the police determined that the act was not an accident but a case of intentional homicide fueled by road rage. The police successfully tracked down and arrested the couple, Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma, who have been charged with murder. Further legal proceedings are underway.

Reflecting on Escalating Road Rage

This tragic episode underscores the alarming rise in intolerance and aggression among motorists in urban centers. It raises serious questions about the failure to control anger over trivial matters, highlighting a distressing lack of value for human life. The incident has once again sparked debate over civic behavior and the need for stricter deterrence against road rage incidents.
