Shooters Arrested in Haridwar After Viral Attack

New Delhi, December 27, 2025: A sensational breakthrough has been achieved by the Haridwar Police following a daring daylight attack on notorious gangster Vinay Tyagi. On Wednesday, December 24, 2025, Tyagi was being transported from Roorkee Jail to a Laksar court when his police vehicle was caught in a traffic jam on the Laksar market flyover. Two bike-borne assailants took advantage of the congestion to open fire on the police SUV, hitting Tyagi multiple times in the neck, chest, and arm. The chaos was captured in a viral video recorded by a witness, showing the shooters fleeing the scene as police personnel struggled to respond.

Arrests Made in Intensive Manhunt

The investigation was accelerated by the Uttarakhand Police, leading to the arrest of two shooters in the forests of Khanpur on Thursday. The suspects have been identified as Sunny Yadav (alias Shera) and Ajay, both residents of Kashipur in the Udham Singh Nagar district. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobhal, the arrests were made possible through a combination of CCTV analysis and an intensive chase. The suspects were reportedly found in possession of illegal firearms used during the crime, and they have since been remanded to judicial custody in Haridwar Jail.

Motive: Financial Disputes and Revenge

The motive behind the assassination attempt has been linked to a deep-seated monetary dispute. It was revealed during preliminary interrogations that Sunny Yadav was a former associate of Tyagi and had allegedly provided a significant sum of money to the gangster. When Yadav demanded the return of his funds, he was reportedly met with death threats from Tyagi. Seeking revenge, Yadav and his accomplice carried out multiple recces of Tyagi’s transit route before executing the ambush. This personal rivalry has overshadowed initial suspicions of a broader gang war.

Casualties and Administrative Fallout

While the shooters have been apprehended, the victim’s condition remains critical. Vinay Tyagi, who has over 60 criminal cases registered against him, was placed on life support at AIIMS Rishikesh after undergoing emergency surgery to remove bullet fragments. The incident also resulted in injuries to two police constables who were escorting the gangster. In the aftermath of the security lapse, a sub-inspector and two constables have been suspended for negligence, while the driver and another constable were honored for their bravery in rushing the injured to the hospital amidst the gunfire.

Reports emerged on the morning of December 27, 2025, indicating that Vinay Tyagi has succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His death has sparked further controversy, with his family alleging a larger conspiracy involving money laundering and high-profile contractors.
