New Delhi, April 1, 2026: Travel at Indian airports has long been synonymous with high-priced sandwiches and gourmet coffees, often leaving the budget-conscious traveler reaching for their own packed snacks. However, a new government-backed initiative is flipping the script.
The UDAN Yatri Cafe, an extension of the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) regional connectivity scheme, has rapidly expanded to provide quality refreshments at “common man” prices. As of April 2026, the initiative has reached a milestone, operating in 17 key locations across the country.
Launched by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, these cafes are designed to make airports more inclusive. By offering essential snacks and beverages at a fraction of standard airport costs—such as tea for ₹10—the government aims to ensure that air travel remains affordable even after you step off the plane or while you wait for a flight.
Most of these cafes are strategically located in pre-check-in areas or terminal departure halls, making them accessible not just to passengers, but also to the families and friends who come to see them off.
As of the latest expansion in March and April 2026, the following 17 airports officially host the UDAN Yatri Cafe:
| Sl. No | Airport Name | City |
| 1 | Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport | Kolkata |
| 2 | Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (T2) | Mumbai |
| 3 | Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (T3) | Lucknow |
| 4 | Jaipur International Airport (T2) | Jaipur |
| 5 | Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport | Patna |
| 6 | Chennai International Airport | Chennai |
| 7 | Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport | Ahmedabad |
| 8 | Pune Airport | Pune |
| 9 | Biju Patnaik International Airport | Bhubaneswar |
| 10 | Donyi Polo Airport | Itanagar |
| 11 | Vijayawada Airport | Vijayawada |
| 12 | Mangaluru International Airport | Mangaluru |
| 13 | Trivandrum International Airport | Thiruvananthapuram |
| 14 | Coimbatore International Airport | Coimbatore |
| 15 | Surat Airport | Surat |
| 16 | Jammu Airport | Jammu |
| 17 | Srinagar International Airport | Srinagar |
The primary appeal of these cafes is the price-controlled menu. While luxury outlets nearby may charge upwards of ₹200 for a coffee, the UDAN Yatri Cafe adheres to a government-approved rate card.
Note: Prices are subject to local taxes and minor regional variations but generally stay within these low-cost brackets.
For decades, airport retail was dominated by high-end brands catering to a premium demographic. As the UDAN scheme brought air travel to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, a new segment of first-time flyers entered the terminal—many of whom found airport food prices prohibitive.
The UDAN Yatri Cafe addresses this “last mile” affordability. By subsidizing or providing rent concessions for these specific stalls, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) ensures that a family of four can enjoy a round of tea and snacks for less than the price of a single cappuccino at a premium chain.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has signaled that this is only the beginning. With the successful rollout in major hubs like Mumbai and Kolkata, as well as regional centers like Itanagar, the goal is to make the UDAN Yatri Cafe a standard feature at every functional airport in India. Future phases are expected to include more North Indian and Northeastern regional airports, further democratizing the Indian aviation experience.
