New Delhi, July 15, 2026: In an incident that has raised concerns over the sanctity of educational institutions, two government school teachers in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district were suspended after a video of them engaging in romantic and intimate acts inside a classroom surfaced on social media. The swift action taken by the state’s basic education department highlights the zero-tolerance stance of the administration toward conduct that compromises the professional decorum of public schools.
The Incident and the Viral Footage
The controversy erupted in the Saurikh block of Kannauj, specifically at a local Composite Primary School. The video, which began circulating heavily on social media platforms, shows a male and a female assistant teacher in a classroom.
In the video, which officials believe was recorded during the winter season due to the attire of the individuals, the female teacher is seen sitting on a chair. The male teacher, after briefly scanning the empty classroom to ensure they are seemingly unobserved, approaches her, and the two engage in an intimate, romantic exchange.
Though no students were present in the immediate vicinity when the video was recorded, the act of using a school classroom—traditionally viewed as a space of learning and character-building—for such personal activities triggered massive outrage online and among local residents.
Swift Action by the Education Department
As soon as the video went viral and drew public ire, the District Basic Education Officer (BSA) of Kannauj, Sandeep Kumar, intervened. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the department immediately ordered a preliminary investigation.
The block education officer of Saurikh, Vishwanath Pathak, was tasked with leading the inquiry. Within days, the probe team submitted its initial findings, confirming that the individuals in the video were indeed assistant teachers employed at the primary school and that their behavior directly violated the service conduct rules expected of state educators.
Following the submission of the inquiry report, BSA Sandeep Kumar officially placed both teachers under suspension.
Public Backlash and Ethical Concerns
The incident has sparked a broader conversation regarding the behavioral expectations of educators in public service. Many parents and community members expressed deep disappointment, emphasizing that teachers are looked upon as role models.
According to the official inquiry report, such behavior inside school premises can “adversely affect the minds of young students” and severely tarnish the reputation of the state’s public education system.
