
New Delhi, November 17, 2025: A devastating road accident was reported in Saudi Arabia yesterday, in which 42 Umrah pilgrims from the state of Telangana, India, were killed. The tragedy was caused by a collision between the bus carrying the pilgrims and a fuel tanker.
The pilgrims were understood to have been travelling to perform the holy pilgrimage of Umrah when their journey was abruptly ended. The collision is believed to have occurred on a major highway outside a metropolitan area.
The tourist bus, which was carrying the group of 42 individuals, was completely destroyed in the impact. It is being reported that the tanker, which was carrying a flammable substance, immediately erupted into flames following the collision. This massive fire was battled by local emergency services for several hours.
All 42 victims have been confirmed as residents of Telangana. The bodies are currently being held in a local facility and are being processed for identification. Their next of kin have been notified of the tragic loss, and their return to India is being facilitated by both Saudi and Indian diplomatic missions.
Deepest condolences were offered by the Chief Minister of Telangana and other political leaders upon hearing the news. An official statement was released, expressing grief and assuring that all possible assistance would be provided to the affected families. Furthermore, an ex-gratia payment is expected to be announced shortly for the victims’ families. The accident is being investigated by Saudi authorities, and preliminary reports are being awaited.
