New Delhi, November 28, 2025: A video capturing a heated verbal confrontation between a couple and an auto-rickshaw driver in Bengaluru recently went viral, causing widespread public anger, particularly due to the woman’s derogatory remarks aimed at the Kannada language. The aggressive exchange, which included highly abusive language and statements dismissing the driver’s social standing, led to a strong social media backlash that ultimately resulted in a public apology being issued by the couple.

The Argument Is Captured

The initial video footage, which was rapidly disseminated across platforms, showed the couple engaged in an intense argument with the auto driver. The exact reason for the dispute remains unclear from the clip, though minor disagreements over drop-off location or fare are often reported as causes in such altercations.

During the filmed exchange, the woman was heard speaking in Hindi, directing severe personal abuse at the driver. Remarks such as, “Tumhari aukat nahi hai humare saamne” (You don’t have the status to stand before us), were prominently heard. Critically, the outrage was magnified by the inclusion of an expletive and dismissive remarks directed specifically at the Kannada language when the driver attempted to communicate or defend himself. The driver was recording the confrontation, and his composed demeanor contrasted sharply with the couple’s aggressive behavior.

Kannada Remarks Fuel Backlash

The language-related remarks caused a significant escalation of the incident’s controversy. The comments were widely interpreted as an insult to the local language and culture of Karnataka, triggering an immediate and intense backlash from Kannadigas on social media. The incident quickly became a flashpoint in the ongoing debate regarding the respectful behavior of non-native residents toward the local culture in Bengaluru. Calls for strict action against the couple were widely posted, with many users condemning the couple’s arrogance and lack of respect.

The Apology Is Secured

Shortly after the initial clip went viral, a follow-up video surfaced online. This second video showed a man, identified by reports as a Kannada activist, confronting the couple and requesting a public apology. The couple was subsequently seen on camera expressing regret for the incident.

In the apology, the man stated that the argument was a result of a misunderstanding and was not serious, attributing the incident to a “mistake.” The couple also expressed remorse for the comments made against the auto driver and the Kannada language. It was implied that the confrontation had reached a point where a public display of contrition was deemed necessary to address the widespread offense that had been caused. The commitment to learn Kannada while living in the city was also expressed by the couple.

The entire incident, from the initial display of aggression to the public apology, serves as a prominent example of how quickly and widely incidents of disrespect are shared and addressed in the current digital landscape, particularly when issues of cultural and linguistic identity are involved.
