New Delhi: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has issued a vital public notice for candidates participating in the NEET PG Counselling 2025, announcing a limited-time opportunity to convert their nationality status before the commencement of Round 2 registration. This move is significant, especially for students whose status has changed or who initially registered incorrectly, as it directly impacts their eligibility for certain seat quotas.
The MCC’s notification clearly outlines the process and deadlines for this crucial conversion. The window is specifically designed for candidates currently registered as Indian Nationals (IN) who wish to change to Non-Resident Indian (NRI) status, and vice-versa.
The ability to change status from IN to NRI is particularly critical, as it allows students to compete for seats reserved under the NRI Quota. These seats often have a separate, higher fee structure but can offer an alternative pathway to secure a specialty in a desired institution. Similarly, candidates who were mistakenly classified as NRI but meet the criteria to be an Indian National can switch back, making them eligible for the main pool of government and private seats under the general merit category.
Candidates must note that this conversion window is extremely brief and adherence to the deadline is non-negotiable. The MCC has specified that candidates seeking a conversion must submit their application and required documentation within a few days, typically leading right up to the start of Round 2.
The MCC will scrutinize these documents. Once verified and approved by the designated authorities, the candidate’s status will be updated on the portal. It is essential to wait for confirmation from the MCC before participating in Round 2.
The counselling process is divided into multiple rounds. Round 1 often sees candidates sticking to their initial registration status. However, as available seats narrow down, strategic changes become necessary.
All eligible candidates who require a nationality status change are strongly advised to check the official MCC notification on their website immediately. Given the tight turnaround time, gathering and scanning the necessary legal and financial documents should be the top priority. Any delay or error in documentation could lead to their application being rejected, potentially jeopardizing their chances of securing a postgraduate medical seat in the 2025 session. Candidates must ensure their application is complete and sent before the stated deadline to participate successfully in the upcoming Round 2 of NEET PG Counselling 2025.
