New Delhi, December 05, 2025: In a chilling incident that underscores both human cruelty and remarkable courage, two young siblings, a four-year-old girl and her three-year-old brother, were rescued from a 10-foot-deep drain in Noida after allegedly being thrown in by their stepfather. The children owe their lives to the swift and selfless action of two Zepto delivery executives who were in the right place at the right time.
The shocking event unfolded late on Tuesday night near the Paras Tierra Society in Sector 137, Noida. Zepto delivery agents Somveer Singh and his colleague Deenvandu were returning from their last drop around 9 pm when a faint, frantic sound caught their attention. They realized the sound—the cries of young children—was coming from a deep, open drain nearby.
Without a second thought, the two men rushed towards the sound. They found the two toddlers trapped in the cold, stagnant water, struggling desperately to keep from slipping further into the slush three metres below ground level. Their immediate action was critical. The delivery agents quickly climbed into the hazardous drain and carefully lifted the terrified and soaked children to safety.
Upon their rescue, the children revealed to their saviors that their “father, Ashish,” had pushed them into the drain moments earlier. Somveer Singh and his colleague immediately alerted local residents, who helped rush the traumatized children to a hospital for immediate first aid and observation. Both children are reported to be healthy and are currently under the care of a Noida day-care centre, pending a presentation before the Child Welfare Committee.
The Noida Police launched an immediate investigation based on Singh’s complaint. The alleged perpetrator, identified as 22-year-old Ashish, a security guard and the children’s stepfather, was swiftly arrested from the Sector 142 Metro station on Wednesday.
Police investigation revealed a disturbing motive. Ashish was the partner of the children’s mother, Neelam. The couple, originally from the same village in Kanpur, had moved to Noida, but officers indicated that Ashish “resented their presence” and did not want to take responsibility for the children. On the night of the incident, he had allegedly taken the opportunity when Neelam was away at the market to carry out the horrifying act.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempt to murder and exposure and abandonment of a child under 12 years of age.
This incident has shaken the community but has simultaneously brought to light the extraordinary empathy and courage of everyday heroes. The quick-thinking and heroic efforts of the two Zepto delivery executives prevented a tragedy and serve as a powerful reminder that bravery can be found in the most unexpected places.
