December 17, 2025 — A wave of panic gripped Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on Wednesday morning as at least ten prominent private schools received bomb threat emails. The threats, which claimed that explosive devices had been planted on school premises, triggered immediate evacuations and a massive security response from local law enforcement.

Massive Security Response

Upon receiving the emails, school administrations immediately activated emergency protocols, notifying the Ahmedabad City Police and the Crime Branch. Thousands of students were safely evacuated as parents were sent urgent messages to pick up their children.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), along with dog squads and the Special Operations Group (SOG), conducted exhaustive searches across the targeted campuses. Some of the schools identified in the threats include:

  • Zydus School for Excellence, Vejalpur
  • Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya, Memnagar
  • Zebar School for Children, Thaltej
  • Nirman High School, Vastrapur
  • DAV International School, Makarba

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Sharad Singhal confirmed that police teams were deployed to every affected school to ensure public safety. “We are taking these threats very seriously, though preliminary checks have not uncovered any suspicious items,” Singhal stated.

Investigation into Foreign Links

The emails reportedly contained aggressive language, including phrases like “We will take revenge,” and made references to the Khalistan movement. Some reports also indicated mentions of high-profile political figures and local landmarks, suggesting an attempt to create widespread civil unrest.

The Cyber Crime Cell is currently tracing the IP addresses used to send the emails. Initial findings suggest the emails may have originated from servers outside of India, a pattern similar to the mass hoax threats that hit Delhi and Bengaluru schools earlier this year and in May 2024.

A History of Hoaxes

While the current situation is being treated with the utmost urgency, authorities have noted a rise in “hoax” threats designed to disrupt public order. In August 2025, a software professional was arrested for sending similar threats to schools and airports across 12 states, driven by personal motives.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified rumors on social media. “The situation is under control. We request parents to cooperate with school authorities and not panic,” said a senior police official.
