New Delhi, December 24, 2025: A tragic turn of events has been reported in Meerut after a female student allegedly attempted to take her own life following the viral leak of a CCTV clip. The footage, which depicted her and a male companion in an intimate moment aboard a Namo Bharat (RRTS) train, was widely circulated on social media platforms earlier this week. The young woman was discovered by family members in a critical state and was immediately rushed to a local hospital, where she is currently being treated. This development has transformed a case of public obscenity into a severe crisis involving privacy violations and mental health.
Decisive action has been taken by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) against the personnel involved in the security breach. A train operator, identified as Rishabh, was summarily fired after it was discovered that the private CCTV feed had been recorded on a personal mobile device from the control monitor. This unauthorized recording is being viewed as the primary source of the leak, leading to the victimization of the students involved.

A comprehensive First Information Report (FIR) has been registered by the Ghaziabad Police at the Muradnagar Police Station. Legal charges have been framed against the two students for “obscene acts in a public place.” Simultaneously, criminal proceedings have been initiated against the terminated operator and the individuals responsible for making the video viral. The case is being investigated under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act, specifically focusing on voyeurism and the transmission of explicit content without consent.
The incident has sparked intense debate regarding the ethics of public surveillance and the devastating impact of “digital shaming.” While the initial discourse focused on public decorum, the conversation has now shifted toward the protection of individual privacy. Concerns are being raised by activists that the leak of internal security footage by official staff constitutes a gross betrayal of public trust. The suicide attempt by the student is being cited as a grim reminder of the real-world consequences of cyberbullying and the lack of stringent data protection for commuters.
In response to the tragedy, calls for reform in the management of transit surveillance are being made by the public. It has been suggested that access to live CCTV feeds must be strictly restricted to prevent future leaks. Furthermore, local authorities have urged the media and the public to stop the further circulation of the video to prevent additional distress to the families involved. Mental health professionals have emphasized the need for a “compassionate approach” when dealing with sensitive leaks involving young adults.
