New Delhi, February 3, 2026: In a rare and candid revelation, veteran actor Neena Gupta has shared insightful details about the relationship between her daughter, fashion mogul Masaba Gupta, and her father, the legendary West Indies cricketer Sir Vivian Richards.
Speaking in a recent interview in February 2026, the Panchayat star described the bond between the two as “comfortable” yet shaped by their starkly different personalities.
Neena Gupta, known for her refreshing honesty, explained that while Masaba and Vivian share a warm connection today, they operate on very different frequencies.
“He’s not a social person. He’s in his own world,” Neena remarked. “On the other hand, Masaba is very social and normal. She is just like me. Whatever they have together, it works well for both of them.”
Despite Richards not being a constant presence during Masaba’s formative years, the family has successfully navigated the complexities of their “blended” dynamic. Neena emphasized that there is no lingering bitterness, noting that the comfort they share now is a testament to the maturity of everyone involved.
The conversation also revisited the iconic family photograph shared during Masaba’s wedding to actor Satyadeep Misra in January 2023. The image, which featured Neena Gupta, her husband Vivek Mehra, Vivian Richards, and Satyadeep’s family, was a milestone for the public to witness.
Neena revealed that the gathering wasn’t a meticulously planned event but rather a beautiful coincidence. Since Masaba opted for a simple court marriage and a reception instead of traditional pheras, the timing allowed for a rare moment where “her whole life came together.”
Neena’s comments come at a time when both mother and daughter are reaching new professional heights. While Neena continues to dominate the screen with upcoming projects like Vadh 2 (releasing February 6, 2026), Masaba has transitioned from a fashion icon to a successful entrepreneur and actor.
Reflecting on her journey as a single mother in the late 1980s, Neena has often spoken about the challenges of raising a child out of wedlock in a conservative society. However, she has always maintained a policy of never “poisoning” Masaba’s mind against her father.
Neena’s latest insights suggest that while Vivian Richards may remain a man of few words, his role in Masaba’s life is one of quiet, established stability.
