New Delhi, November 27, 2025: In a major boost for the all-electric racing series, Mahindra Racing has confirmed its long-term future in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, committing as a manufacturer to the GEN4 era which begins in the 2026/27 season and runs until at least 2030. The announcement was made in India alongside the unveiling of the team’s new Season 12 challenger, the M12Electro.

This extended commitment underscores Mahindra’s belief in Formula E as a crucial platform for developing sustainable electric vehicle technology, linking their “Race to Road” philosophy—where track innovation directly informs their road cars—with their vision for global sustainable mobility.

A Foundational Team’s Strong Comeback

Mahindra Racing is one of the founding teams of Formula E, participating since the very first season in 2013 and becoming the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to commit to the championship. Over the years, the team has accumulated a strong record, including five E-Prix victories, 29 podiums, and 11 pole positions.

This long-term commitment follows a significant period of improvement for the team. Under CEO and Team Principal Frederic Bertrand, the team has successfully climbed back up the grid, evolving from struggling for points to becoming regular podium contenders. This resurgence was particularly evident in the preceding season, which saw the team finish a stellar fourth in the Teams’ Championship.

New Car and Driver Line-Up

To build on this momentum, Mahindra Racing unveiled the striking M12Electro, their new car for the upcoming Season 12, which begins with the São Paulo E-Prix in December. The car, featuring an updated hardware and software package, is expected to cement their position among the top contenders.

The team will maintain consistency in its driver line-up for the season, retaining the experienced pairing of 2021 champion Nyck de Vries and race winner Edoardo Mortara. They will be supported by Reserve Driver Kush Maini. This stable and competitive line-up is a key factor in the team’s ambition to become an established contender for the World Championship title.

Gearing up for the GEN4 Era

The commitment to the GEN4 era (2026-2030) is a major statement of intent. The next generation of Formula E cars promises groundbreaking technological advancements, which perfectly align with Mahindra’s “Planet Positive” sustainability programme.

Key technical upgrades expected for the GEN4 car include:

  • Increased peak power output of up to 600 kW (with 450 kW peak race power).
  • Significantly higher regenerative braking capacity, up to 700 kW.
  • A larger battery capacity of up to 55 kWh.
  • The introduction of permanent all-wheel drive for use in certain race modes, adding a new strategic dimension.

Mahindra Racing Chairman R. Velusamy emphasised that Formula E is an unparalleled platform for innovating in electric powertrain efficiency, sustainable materials, and software intelligence, with the GEN4 era representing an exciting new chapter for the team and the wider Mahindra Group.
