New Delhi, April, 7 2026 — Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has concluded the 2025-26 financial year (FY26) on a historic high, reinforcing its status as the titan of the Indian automotive industry. In a year defined by shifting consumer preferences and the rise of the SUV, the country’s largest carmaker achieved a massive total sales figure of 2,422,713 units.
The highlight of this performance is the remarkable consistency of its core portfolio. Seven of Maruti Suzuki’s most popular models—the Dzire, Ertiga, Swift, WagonR, Brezza, Baleno, and Fronx—each successfully crossed the 1,50,000-unit annual sales mark, showcasing the brand’s diverse reach across sedans, MPVs, hatchbacks, and SUVs.
In a surprising turn of events, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire emerged as the best-selling passenger vehicle in India for FY26, dethroning the WagonR. The compact sedan recorded total sales of approximately 2.3 lakh units, a testament to its enduring appeal despite the market’s heavy tilt toward SUVs.
“A sedan emerging as the number one model in an SUV-dominated market is a significant achievement,” noted Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer at Maruti Suzuki. “It proves that for many Indian families and fleet operators, the efficiency and comfort of a sedan remain unparalleled.”
The “Power Seven” models that crossed the 1.5 lakh unit threshold illustrate Maruti’s strategic dominance across various price points:
| Model | FY26 Sales Status | Segment Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Dzire | ~230,000 Units | India’s #1 Selling Car; dominated the sedan segment. |
| Brezza | >170,000 Units | Continued to lead the compact SUV charge with steady growth. |
| Ertiga | >170,000 Units | Remained the undisputed king of the MPV segment. |
| Swift | ~170,800 Units | Maintained strong momentum despite the launch of new rivals. |
| WagonR | ~163,100 Units | A consistent volume driver, popular for its “Tall Boy” utility. |
| Baleno | ~156,100 Units | The premium hatchback leader through the Nexa outlet. |
| Fronx | >150,000 Units | Significant contributor to Maruti’s growing SUV market share. |

While hatchbacks like the Swift and Baleno remain volume pillars, the Utility Vehicle (UV) segment was the real growth engine this fiscal. Comprising models like the Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, and the newly launched Victoris, the UV segment contributed a staggering 7,60,987 units to the annual tally.
The Fronx crossover and the Ertiga MPV, in particular, showed high resilience, with the Ertiga benefiting from a 20% year-on-year growth in certain months, fueled by high demand for its CNG variants.
Maruti Suzuki’s success in FY26 wasn’t limited to Indian shores. The company hit an all-time high in exports, shipping 4,47,774 units to over 100 countries.
Key FY26 Highlights:
As Maruti Suzuki pivots toward a multi-pathway future involving Petrol, CNG, Hybrid, and the upcoming Electric Vehicle (EV) lineup (led by the e-Vitara), the FY26 results provide a rock-solid foundation. With seven models acting as individual “power brands” by crossing the 1.5 lakh unit mark, the automaker looks set to maintain its 40%+ market share in the coming fiscal year.
