HDFC Bank, India’s largest private sector lender, today announced the resignation of its Chief Human Resource Officer (CHRO), Vinay Razdan, effective from the close of business hours on June 18, 2025. The bank confirmed the development in a regulatory filing, marking the end of Razdan’s nearly seven-year tenure with the institution.

The reason for Mr. Razdan’s departure was not disclosed in the official communication from the bank. However, reports suggest that he had tendered his resignation earlier this month, indicating a planned exit.

Vinay Razdan joined HDFC Bank in September 2018 and has been a pivotal figure in shaping the bank’s human resource strategies and policies during a period of significant growth and transformation, including the recent merger with HDFC Ltd. He was responsible for overseeing the entire HR function, a critical role given the bank’s vast employee base and ambitious expansion plans.

An HR veteran with over three decades of experience, Razdan has a distinguished career spanning various sectors including FMCG, IT Services, and Telecommunications. Prior to his role at HDFC Bank, he served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Idea Cellular Ltd. for over 12 years, where he was instrumental in several transformative initiatives, including the merger with Vodafone India to form Vi. His professional journey also includes leadership stints at marquee organizations such as ITC Ltd and HCL Technologies.

Under his leadership, some of the organizations he worked with were recognized as great places to work, reflecting his focus on fostering a positive and productive work environment. Razdan is an alumnus of Delhi University and holds a postgraduate qualification in Personnel Management and Industrial Relations from XLRI, Jamshedpur.

The bank has not yet announced a successor for the CHRO position. The search for a new HR head is expected to consider both internal candidates, potentially including some of Razdan’s deputies, as well as external talent to fill this crucial leadership role.

The news of Razdan’s resignation comes amidst the bank’s ongoing efforts to manage employee attrition and integrate its workforce following the merger. HDFC Bank employed over 210,000 people as of December last year, and the HR function remains central to its operational stability and future growth trajectory.
