The AP TET is a mandatory qualifying examination for teacher appointments in Andhra Pradesh. Candidates must possess the required academic and professional qualifications to be eligible.
Aspirants must generally possess a Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), Bachelor of Education (B.Ed), or an equivalent qualification recognized by the NCTE. Candidates who are pursuing the final semester of any of these recognized Teacher Education Courses are also eligible to apply. Specific detailed requirements for each paper (Paper-1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B) are outlined in the Information Bulletin.
The examination is divided into four papers based on the level of teaching a candidate aspires to:
Each paper consists of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), carrying a total of 150 marks. Importantly, there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
Candidates must score the following minimum percentage of marks to be declared ‘TET Qualified’:
| Category | Minimum Qualifying Percentage | Minimum Marks (Out of 150) |
| OC/EWS | 60% and above | 90 and above |
| BC | 50% and above | 75 and above |
| SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen | 40% and above | 60 and above |
The AP TET certificate is now valid for a lifetime as per the latest NCTE norms. Furthermore, the AP TET score will carry a 20 per cent weightage in future Teacher Recruitment Tests (TRT) conducted by the state government, making a high score crucial for selection.
