GATE 2026: Application Deadlines Extended by IIT Guwahati

IIT Guwahati, the organizing institute for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, has announced a revised schedule for the examination’s registration. The changes primarily affect the application deadlines, offering prospective candidates an extended window to complete their registration. Revised Application Deadlines

The initial plan for the registration to begin on August 25, 2025, has been shifted. The GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) is now scheduled to open on August 28, 2025. The regular application period, which allows candidates to register without a late fee, has been extended until September 28, 2025. This provides an additional three days for applicants to submit their forms.

For those who are unable to meet the regular deadline, IIT Guwahati has also extended the late-fee registration window. Candidates can now apply from September 29, 2025, until October 9, 2025, by paying an additional late fee.

Key Dates and Exam Details

While the application dates have been adjusted, the core examination schedule remains the same. The GATE 2026 exams will be conducted on February 7, 8, 14, and 15, 2026. The results are slated to be announced on March 19, 2026.

In addition to the revised schedule, IIT Guwahati has also introduced some other notable changes for the GATE 2026 examination. A new sectional test paper, Energy Science (XE-I), has been added to the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper, expanding the total number of disciplines to 30. The application fee structure has also been updated, with varying rates for different categories of candidates during both the regular and extended registration periods.
