The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the results for the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) June 2025 session. Aspirants who appeared for this crucial examination can now access their scorecards and subject-wise, category-wise cut-off marks on the official UGC NET website: ugcnet.nta.ac.in. The declaration, made on July 21, 2025, comes a day ahead of the previously anticipated date, bringing relief and clarity to thousands of candidates.

The UGC NET examination is a nationwide test conducted twice a year to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for ‘Assistant Professor’ or ‘Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor’ positions in Indian universities and colleges, as well as for admission to PhD programs.

Key Highlights of the June 2025 Session:

  • Examination Dates: The UGC NET June 2025 exam was conducted from June 25 to June 29, 2025, across more than 250 test cities nationwide.
  • Participation: A total of 10,19,751 candidates registered for the exam, out of which a significant 7,52,007 candidates appeared. This includes 4,46,849 females, 3,05,122 males, and 36 candidates from the third gender.
  • Result Categories: Out of the appeared candidates, 188,333 have successfully qualified across different categories. This includes:
    • 5,269 candidates who qualified for both Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor.
    • 54,885 candidates who qualified for Assistant Professor and admission to PhD programs.
    • 1,28,179 candidates who qualified for PhD admission only.
  • Exam Structure: The examination comprised two papers – Paper 1 (100 marks) and Paper 2 (200 marks), with a total of 150 multiple-choice questions. Each correct answer carried two marks, and importantly, there was no negative marking, providing a fair assessment for candidates.

Understanding the Cut-Offs:

The cut-off marks are paramount as they determine a candidate’s qualification status for the various eligibility criteria (JRF, Assistant Professor, or PhD only). The NTA releases separate cut-off lists for each subject and category (Unreserved, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD). These cut-offs are derived based on several factors, including:

  • Number of candidates appeared: A higher number of candidates can sometimes lead to slightly higher cut-offs if the competition is intense.
  • Difficulty level of the examination: If the paper is perceived as more challenging, the cut-offs may see a slight dip.
  • Overall performance of candidates: The collective performance directly influences the qualifying scores.
  • Availability of positions/fellowships: The number of JRF slots and Assistant Professor vacancies also plays a role in setting the cut-offs.

For the General/Unreserved category, candidates typically need to score a minimum of 40% in aggregate of both papers to be considered for qualification, while for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST/PwD categories, the minimum qualifying marks are 35%. However, meeting these minimum criteria does not guarantee qualification; candidates must also meet the subject-wise and category-wise cut-off marks for their respective disciplines.
