New Delhi, November 21, 2025: A controversy involving contestant Ashnoor Kaur from the reality show Bigg Boss 19 has intensified following the circulation of certain viral videos. These videos allegedly featured her co-contestant, Tanya Mittal, making body-shaming remarks, and snippets of a subsequent conversation with Ashnoor’s father. The actor’s father, Gurmeet Singh, was compelled to issue a clarification, urging the public “not to fall for clipped” narratives that were taken out of context.
The initial controversy was sparked when Tanya Mittal and other contestants were caught on camera allegedly making derogatory comments about Ashnoor Kaur’s weight and appearance. Ashnoor was reportedly called “haathi” (elephant) and other demeaning terms by the trio. These segments were widely shared by fans online, leading to massive backlash and calls for the host, Salman Khan, to address the unacceptable behavior on the show. Tanya Mittal was publicly confronted by the host on a Weekend Ka Vaar episode and was asked to apologize.

The latest phase of the drama was triggered during the show’s Family Week, when Gurmeet Singh entered the house to meet his daughter. A subsequent conversation between the father and daughter was filmed and was later edited for broadcast. Snippets of this conversation went viral with the narrative that Gurmeet Singh had advised his daughter to “take advantage” of the body-shaming remarks made by Tanya Mittal. This interpretation was met with surprise by many viewers.
In response to the misinterpretation, Gurmeet Singh took to his social media to issue a clear and detailed statement. He publicly stated that the videos suggesting he told Ashnoor to “take advantage” of the comments were misleading. His words were claimed to have been “taken totally out of context” and that the conversation surrounding forgiveness had nothing to do with the body-shaming issue, but was instead a “light, fun moment” that was edited to create a different meaning.
His clarification was aimed at preventing unfair judgment, stating, “My words have been taken totally out of context… a different meaning is being attached to what I have said, and that’s unfair to everyone involved.” He also expressed that the environment in the house was positive during his visit, and he intended only to uplift his daughter.
Gurmeet Singh concluded his public message by making a direct request to the audience. He urged viewers “not to fall for clipped, out-of-context narratives” that are often created by show editing or social media users. The overall sentiment was focused on dignity and grace, with Mr. Singh having previously countered the critics by questioning why contestants were so insecure about a 21-year-old, concluding that they could not match her level of dignity and grace. The entire episode is serving as a potent reminder of the impact of media editing on public perception.
