Bollywood is abuzz with two separate controversies involving veteran stars Madhuri Dixit Nene and Govinda, each facing public scrutiny for different reasons.
The “Dhak Dhak” girl of Bollywood, Madhuri Dixit Nene, is currently facing significant online backlash and criticism following her recent live event in Toronto, Canada, as part of her ‘Dil Se.. Madhuri’ tour. Attendees expressed widespread disappointment, primarily due to the actress’s reported three-hour late arrival and what many called a “misleading” show format.
- The Delay: The show, which was ticketed to begin around 7:30 PM, reportedly did not see Madhuri Dixit take the stage until close to 10:00 PM. This substantial delay angered many in the audience, with complaints surfacing that their time was disrespected, especially as some had to leave early due to work the following day.
- Misleading Format: Furthermore, numerous fans claimed the event was promoted as a full-fledged concert or musical performance. However, upon attending, they found it to be primarily a Q&A or ‘talk session’ with only brief segments of dancing and singing. Attendees who had paid high ticket prices, some reportedly up to $200, felt short-changed and demanded refunds.
- Organiser’s Clarification: In response to the wave of criticism, the show’s organisers, True Sound Live Ltd., issued a statement. They placed the blame for the delay squarely on Madhuri Dixit’s team, claiming that her management misinformed her about the call time. The organisers asserted that the delay was “completely beyond the control” of their company and that the show commenced on time with supporting acts as scheduled.
Despite the strong negative reactions and calls for refunds, some loyal fans defended the actress, suggesting the issue was a “production or management coordination concern” rather than a fault of Madhuri herself. At the time of reporting, Madhuri Dixit has not released a personal statement regarding the controversy.
Govinda Issues Public Apology for Sunita Ahuja’s Disparaging Comments
In a separate development, actor Govinda has released a public video apology condemning remarks made by his wife, Sunita Ahuja, during a recent podcast interview. Sunita’s comments were directed at the couple’s long-time family priest, Pandit Mukesh Shukla, and Govinda’s close circle.
- Sunita’s Remarks: During a chat on a podcast, Sunita Ahuja made what Govinda later termed “disparaging comments” regarding the priest, questioning the efficacy of the paid rituals he performs and suggesting his advice was unhelpful. She was quoted questioning the high fees charged for certain ceremonies. Sunita also criticised Govinda’s inner circle, labelling them as “foolish writers” who give him “terrible advice.”
- Govinda’s Condemnation and Apology: Reacting swiftly to the controversy, Govinda released a statement expressing his deepest apologies to Pandit Mukesh Shukla. He explicitly condemned his wife’s comments, stating his immense respect for the priest and the Shukla family, who have served his family for generations and stood by him “in tough times.” The veteran actor’s quick and public condemnation aims to distance himself from his wife’s remarks and mend the relationship with his spiritual consultant.
The incident has drawn attention to the private beliefs and associations of the prominent Bollywood couple, with Govinda choosing to prioritise his relationship with his long-time family priest over his wife’s controversial on-air statements.
