New Delhi, August 21, 2025: Coolie’s has concluded its first week at the box office with a formidable collection, firmly establishing its position as a major success. After seven days in theaters, the film’s total domestic earnings have reached ₹222.5 crore, a figure that is still climbing.
The film, which was released on August 14, 2025, has had a strong opening week, although a decline in daily collections has been observed since the extended Independence Day weekend. The movie’s opening day was marked by a staggering ₹65 crore collection, which was followed by a slight dip to ₹54.75 crore on its second day.
The weekend saw the collections decrease further, with ₹39.5 crore and ₹35.25 crore being earned on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. A significant drop was registered on its first Monday, with the film minting ₹12 crore. This was followed by a collection of ₹9.5 crore on Tuesday and an estimated ₹6.50 crore on Wednesday, its seventh day. Despite the downward trend in daily figures, the total collection has been impressive, solidifying the film’s financial success.

Beyond its domestic triumph, ‘Coolie’ has also made a significant impact on the global box office. It has been reported that the film has crossed the ₹425 crore mark in worldwide gross collections in just seven days. A large portion of this overseas revenue has been contributed by key international markets such as Malaysia, Singapore, and the Gulf region.
The film, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, has been released in five languages to appeal to a pan-India audience. It has been noted that the film’s success has been achieved despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, with some expressing concerns over the screenplay and plot. However, the immense star power of Rajinikanth and the strong word-of-mouth among the audience appear to have overcome these criticisms, resulting in the film’s sustained performance.
While the box office performance has been strong, the film has also been involved in a legal matter, as the producers, Sun Pictures, have challenged the ‘A’ certificate granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in the Madras High Court. This appeal has been made with the argument that other films with similar action sequences have been given a ‘U/A’ certificate.
As ‘Coolie’ enters its second week, its continued performance will be closely watched by trade analysts. The film’s ability to maintain momentum and attract audiences despite the week-on-week decline will be a key indicator of its long-term box office trajectory.
