Nani delivers a compelling and intense performance as SP Arjun Sarkaar in “HIT 3: The Third Case,” the latest installment in the popular Telugu crime thriller franchise. Directed by Sailesh Kolanu, the film plunges viewers into a dark and violent world as Arjun investigates a series of brutal murders that take him from the familiar landscapes of Visakhapatnam to the challenging terrains of Jammu and Kashmir. While Nani’s portrayal of the ruthless and headstrong officer is undoubtedly the film’s strength, the lack of a formidable antagonist and a somewhat predictable narrative prevent “HIT 3” from reaching its full potential.

Stepping into a role that showcases a more aggressive side, Nani commands the screen with his raw intensity and nuanced portrayal of a cop haunted by his past yet driven by an unwavering commitment to justice. His dialogue delivery, often laced with profanity, adds to the character’s rugged appeal, particularly resonating with younger audiences seeking a mass hero. The film largely rests on his shoulders, and Nani carries the weight effectively, delivering a performance that his fans will undoubtedly celebrate.

Srinidhi Shetty, as the female lead Mrudula, provides a softer contrast to Arjun’s fiery persona. However, the romantic track between them feels somewhat forced and disrupts the otherwise gripping narrative. While Shetty delivers a decent performance, her character doesn’t leave a lasting impact in the grand scheme of the investigation.

The initial premise of “HIT 3” is intriguing, with a series of murders across the country hinting at a larger, sinister plot. Director Sailesh Kolanu successfully establishes a tense atmosphere, particularly in the second half, which takes on a darker, almost “Squid Game”-like vibe in its setting and high-stakes scenarios. The action sequences, especially in the pre-climax, are well-choreographed and contribute to the film’s overall intensity. The cinematography by Sanu John Varghese effectively captures the contrasting locales, from dense forests to gritty urban environments, enhancing the film’s visual appeal. Mickey J. Meyer’s background score is more impactful in the latter half, amplifying the suspenseful moments.

However, the film falters in its characterization of the antagonist, played by Prateik Babbar. Despite the buildup, the villain lacks the menacing presence and compelling motivations that would elevate the conflict. This weakness undermines the impact of Arjun’s relentless pursuit, making the climax feel somewhat less satisfying. Furthermore, while the initial investigation is engaging, the narrative occasionally becomes predictable, with some plot points lacking the logical coherence expected from a crime thriller. The film’s runtime of 2 hours and 37 minutes also feels stretched, with some editing in the romantic subplot and action sequences potentially tightening the pace.

Despite these shortcomings, “HIT 3” offers enough to keep genre enthusiasts engaged, primarily due to Nani’s powerful performance and the film’s stylized action. The inclusion of surprise cameos towards the climax is also likely to generate excitement among the audience. However, viewers looking for a tightly woven investigative thriller with a strong antagonist might find themselves slightly underwhelmed.

In conclusion, “HIT 3” is largely a one-man show, powered by Nani’s compelling portrayal of a gritty and determined police officer. While the film delivers intense action and a dark atmosphere, the weak villain and predictable narrative prevent it from reaching the heights of a truly memorable crime thriller. It’s a worthwhile watch for Nani’s performance alone, but it leaves one wishing for a more formidable adversary to truly test his mettle.
