Nushrratt Bharuccha, known for her impactful performances in films like “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” and “Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety,” has recently voiced her perspective on the opportunities she receives in Bollywood compared to some of her contemporaries. In a candid conversation, the actress opened up about why she believes she hasn’t consistently landed roles similar to those of Sonakshi Sinha or Shraddha Kapoor, despite delivering commercially successful movies.
Bharuccha highlighted the inherent advantages that actors with industry connections often possess. She pointed out that star kids, or those with family already established in Bollywood, naturally have a greater understanding of the inner workings of the industry and access to a wider network. This familiarity allows them to reach out to filmmakers and producers more easily, sometimes gaining access to opportunities that outsiders might not even be aware of.
“They definitely have an advantage,” Nushrratt stated, acknowledging the different paths within the industry. “They know the industry, they know the people. And if they don’t, their parents do. So what happens is, they reach places I cannot. They can knock on doors I may not even know the address of. If I want to meet a director, who’s going to give me his number? Where should I even ask for the director’s address? This is a very practical problem — but it’s a real one.”
Recalling her early days in the industry, Nushrratt shared an instance after the success of “Pyaar Ka Punchnama” where she struggled to connect with a director she admired. It was through a message to director Kabir Khan that she finally secured a meeting, an experience she described as making her “month.” This anecdote underscored the challenges faced by those without established networks in navigating the industry and securing crucial meetings.
While acknowledging the advantages some actors have, Nushrratt refrained from using the term “nepo kids,” emphasizing that everyone in the industry faces their own set of struggles. However, she admitted that the initial inroads and access to opportunities are significantly different for those who are not from film families.
Despite these challenges, Nushrratt expressed gratitude for the filmmakers who have shown faith in her talent, mentioning Luv Ranjan, Hansal Mehta, and Vishal Furia, with whom she shares a close working relationship. She emphasized that she values the opportunities she has received and cherishes the people who have chosen to collaborate with her.
Currently, Nushrratt is actively promoting her latest film, “Chhorii 2,” a sequel to the 2021 horror film. This project, directed by Vishal Furia and also starring Soha Ali Khan, marks another significant role in her filmography, showcasing her continued dedication to her craft despite the hurdles she has encountered in her journey within the Hindi film industry.
