New Delhi, March 14, 2026: In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Indian film industry, acclaimed filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) has officially confirmed that the fourth installment of his legendary political crime franchise, Sarkar, is currently in development. Speaking at the Red Lorry Film Festival 2026 in Mumbai, the National Award-winning director revealed that the film is set to go on floors as early as April 2026.

The announcement came during an engaging session held before the screening of his 1989 cult classic, Shiva. Varma, known for his gritty storytelling and pioneering visual style, told the audience, “I am making Sarkar 4. I start that film next month.”

A Legacy of Power and Politics

The Sarkar franchise, which began in 2005, is deeply rooted in the socio-politics of Maharashtra and centers on the powerful Nagre family. The series is widely regarded as an Indian tribute to The Godfather, featuring Amitabh Bachchan in his iconic role as Subhash Nagre, a man who runs a parallel government for the people.

  • Sarkar (2005): Introduced the world to the “Sarkar” philosophy, starring Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan.
  • Sarkar Raj (2008): Expanded the universe with the addition of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
  • Sarkar 3 (2017): Brought back the Nagre patriarch nearly a decade later, featuring a fresh ensemble including Manoj Bajpayee and Yami Gautam.

While RGV has confirmed the production timeline, he has remained tight-lipped regarding the specific cast details for Sarkar 4. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Amitabh Bachchan to the titular role, which has become synonymous with the franchise’s identity.

“Washing Away the Sins”

Alongside the Sarkar 4 announcement, RGV shared details about another ambitious project titled Syndicate. In his trademark candid and witty style, the filmmaker made a bold claim about his upcoming work:

“I just took the decision that ‘Enough is enough’. It might seem like a very high-handed statement, but with this film (Syndicate), I have decided to wash away all my sins! It’ll shock everybody.”

He also reflected on his recent evolution as a storyteller, admitting that his films suffered in the past when he relied too heavily on “bound scripts.” He noted that real-life unpredictability is what he aims to recapture in his new ventures.

What to Expect Next

The filmmaker also has another project in the pipeline, Police Station Mein Bhoot, which marks a much-awaited reunion with Manoj Bajpayee, also starring Genelia Deshmukh and Ramya Krishnan.

With Sarkar 4 starting production next month, the director is clearly entering a prolific new chapter. Whether this new installment will redefine the political thriller genre once again—or as RGV puts it, “whether the proof of the pudding is in the eating”—is something the audience will discover by the end of the year.
