New Delhi, December 11, 2025: Playback singer and voice artist Chinmayi Sripada has once again been forced to take legal action against severe online harassment, filing a police complaint over a morphed and obscene photograph circulated online, coupled with chilling death threats specifically targeting her children.
The latest wave of abuse, which the singer describes as intensely toxic, reportedly escalated following a recent comment made by her husband, filmmaker and actor Rahul Ravindran, concerning the mangalasutra (a sacred thread worn by married women).
Chinmayi Sripada revealed on social media that the abuse involved not only the circulation of a deeply offensive, morphed image of herself but also a disturbing social media discussion where trolls expressed that women they disapprove of should not have children, and if they do, “those children must die immediately.” She named several individuals in her police complaint, detailing the heinous nature of the threats made against her family.
This is not the first time the singer, who has been a prominent voice in the #MeToo movement in South India, has faced such vitriolic online attacks. However, the inclusion of her children in the threats marks a new and highly distressing low.
In response to the vile deepfake and morphed image, Chinmayi issued a strong and courageous public message, urging women and parents to confront such harassment head-on. She emphasized the importance of removing the shame often associated with being a victim of digital abuse.
“I would only urge women to not be scared of anybody morphing these photographs and videos… The only way for women to manage this is to get rid of the shame. It’s not your shame,” she stated.
Chinmayi also raised a critical warning about the misuse of AI deepfakes, highlighting the growing threat of technology being exploited to target women and children. She specifically mentioned the alarming use of AI in creating child pornography rings, urging parents to be vigilant and aware of this digital danger.
The singer has filed an official police complaint, including the names of the individuals involved in making the death threats on a social media platform. While the latest news reports confirm the filing of the complaint, the specifics of the ongoing police investigation and any subsequent arrests are pending official updates.
Chinmayi’s unwavering commitment to fighting for safety and dignity in online spaces serves as a powerful reminder of the real-world consequences of cyberbullying and gender-based online violence. Her previous successful actions against online abusers in past years underscore her determination to use legal channels to hold harassers accountable.
This incident shines a harsh light on the need for stricter enforcement of cyber laws and greater social media accountability to protect individuals, especially women and children, from online terror.
