New Delhi, November 14, 2025: A striking character reveal has been made for the upcoming SS Rajamouli-Mahesh Babu globetrotter project, tentatively titled SSMB29. Global star Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been officially introduced as Mandakini, marking her anticipated return to Indian cinema.
The news was confirmed by the filmmakers, with a first-look poster being widely shared across social media platforms. In the powerful visual, the actress is seen draped in a vibrant yellow saree, a seemingly traditional image that is immediately subverted by her fierce action pose—she is depicted firing a gun while maintaining her balance on what appears to be a cliffside.
The character’s name, Mandakini, along with the recent reveal of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s antagonist character, Kumbha, suggests that the action-adventure epic will be steeped in mythological undertones, a style for which Rajamouli is well known. The duality of her traditional attire and a modern weapon has been highly praised by fans and commentators alike, with the poster being described as an “epic redefinition of desi power.”
A warm welcome was extended to the actress by Director SS Rajamouli on social media, where it was written that he “can’t wait for the world to witness your myriad shades of MANDAKINI.” The film is being eagerly awaited, as this is the actress’s first Indian film in six years, following her last appearance in The Sky is Pink (2019).
Anticipation for the project, which is billed as a jungle-adventure thriller reportedly set in Africa, has been significantly amplified by the character introductions. The cast also includes Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in the lead role, and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the villain, Kumbha.
Further details are expected to be unveiled at a massive event which has been scheduled for November 15 in Hyderabad. The film’s official title is anticipated to be announced, and the world is expected to be given its first glimpse into Rajamouli’s latest cinematic vision at the event, which will be digitally streamed for audiences worldwide.
