The Indian wildlife and conservation community is mourning the loss of Vasudha Chakravarthi, a celebrated photographer who was found dead in the Souparnika River in Karnataka‘s Kollur. The 46-year-old Bengaluru resident, known for her evocative and sensitive portrayal of India’s diverse ecosystems, had been missing for several days.

A Tragic Discovery

Vasudha Chakravarthi’s body was recovered on Saturday, August 30th, 2025, near the Mavinakaru estuary, approximately three kilometers downstream from where she was last seen. According to local police, she had traveled to Kollur on August 28th and visited the Sri Mookambika Temple. After parking her car at a guesthouse, she reportedly went towards the Souparnika River and did not return. Her mother, who had filed a missing person report, mentioned that Vasudha seemed disturbed before she disappeared.

A massive search operation was launched by Kollur police, local residents, and the Byndoor fire services, which included a team of expert swimmers. The search efforts led to the discovery of her body, which has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the official cause of death. While initial reports and the circumstances point towards drowning, authorities are conducting a thorough investigation and have not ruled out any other possibilities.
