New Delhi, December 1, 2025: A dangerous trend in political misinformation has emerged with the widespread circulation of sophisticated deepfake videos featuring prominent Indian journalists, including Ravish Kumar, Shiv Aroor, and Palki Sharma. These fabricated clips show the respected journalists seemingly reporting false news about senior NDA leaders engaging in controversial “overtures” toward Pakistan. The high-quality digital manipulation of the video footage is designed to inject politically motivated falsehoods into public discourse and is being strongly condemned by media ethics watchdogs.
The core of the viral controversy lies in the complete hijacking of journalistic credibility. The deepfake videos utilize advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to convincingly replicate the faces, voices, and signature reporting styles of the well-known news anchors. In the fabricated reports, the journalists are seen delivering detailed, yet entirely false, narratives concerning alleged, clandestine diplomatic efforts or policy changes by the ruling NDA government toward Pakistan.
The deliberate use of familiar and trusted faces is a calculated strategy intended to bypass public skepticism. Viewers who typically trust these journalists are more likely to believe the fabricated news, leading to the rapid and dangerous dissemination of the political falsehoods across social media platforms.

Following the swift and exponential growth of the deceptive videos, the respective news organizations and the journalists themselves were forced to issue public warnings. Official disclaimers are being circulated across verified channels, categorically stating that the reports shown in the viral videos are fake, misleading, and were never broadcast by their channels.
This incident has been highlighted by media analysts as a significant escalation in the use of deepfake technology for political warfare, where the goal is not just to spread fake news but to undermine the very integrity of the journalistic profession. The technology allows politically charged, inflammatory narratives—such as controversial foreign policy shifts—to be fabricated and attributed to trusted news sources.
The widespread sharing of the deepfakes has intensified the call for stronger regulatory measures against the use of synthetic media for malicious purposes. Experts are advising the public to exercise extreme caution: when consuming sensitive political news, cross-verification from multiple official sources is essential. Subtle inconsistencies in the video quality, lip-syncing, or audio pitch are often the only clues that the content has been manipulated.
The creation and distribution of these videos are being actively investigated by cyber units. The focus of the probe is centered on identifying the entities responsible for weaponizing AI to disrupt the country’s political dialogue and media environment.
