In a shocking incident that highlights the increasing triviality of reasons leading to violent crime, Delhi Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly murdering his father following a heated argument over who would sit in the front seat of a tempo. The tragic event unfolded in the early hours of Thursday morning, leaving the community stunned and raising serious questions about familial relations and impulse control.
The accused, identified as Rohit, a resident of the Mayur Vihar area, was apprehended by authorities after his mother reported the incident. According to police, the dispute began when Rohit, his 55-year-old father, Pramod, and other family members were returning home in a shared tempo. An argument reportedly broke out between father and son over who would occupy the front passenger seat. What started as a seemingly minor disagreement quickly escalated into a violent altercation.
Eyewitnesses, including other passengers in the tempo, reportedly stated that the argument became increasingly aggressive. As the tempo neared their residence, the verbal spat allegedly turned physical. Police sources indicate that Rohit, in a fit of rage, pushed his father forcefully. Pramod, who was reportedly frail due to age and pre-existing health conditions, lost his balance and fell, sustaining severe head injuries after hitting the ground.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by other family members and concerned neighbors. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Pramod succumbed to his injuries a few hours later. The preliminary post-mortem report suggests that the cause of death was indeed the head trauma sustained during the fall.
Upon receiving the complaint from Pramod’s distraught wife, who was also present during the incident, Delhi Police initiated an investigation. Rohit was subsequently taken into custody based on her statement and the corroborating accounts of other witnesses. During interrogation, Rohit reportedly confessed to the argument and the physical altercation, though he claimed it was not his intention to cause his father’s death.
A senior police officer commented on the case, stating, “It’s a deeply unfortunate incident. A life has been lost over something as trivial as a seat in a vehicle. It underscores the need for greater emotional control and respect within families. We have registered a case of murder under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, and further investigations are ongoing.”
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with neighbors expressing disbelief at the motive behind such a heinous act. “Pramod was a quiet man, and Rohit seemed like a regular young man. We never imagined such a thing could happen in this family, especially over something so small,” remarked a bewildered neighbor.
The arrest serves as a grim reminder of the escalating violence often stemming from petty disputes, highlighting a worrying trend of diminishing patience and increasing aggression in everyday interactions. Rohit remains in police custody, and he is expected to be produced before a local court where further legal proceedings will commence.
