New Delhi, November 13, 2025: A shocking video that prominently featured a group of inmates dancing, partying, and allegedly consuming prohibited items inside the Bengaluru Central Prison (Parappana Agrahara) has led to swift official action. The highly circulated footage was viewed by commentators as irrefutable evidence of severe security lapses and VIP treatment being afforded to certain prisoners within the high-security facility. Consequently, four undertrial prisoners have been formally booked by the police.
The viral clip, which was allegedly recorded on a mobile phone—an item strictly banned within prison limits—showed the inmates inside Room No. 7 of Barrack 8. The four undertrials were seen dancing enthusiastically, using plastic containers and plates as makeshift musical instruments, and reportedly consuming non-vegetarian food and suspected liquor. The entire scene was widely interpreted as an unauthorized celebration and a blatant violation of prison discipline.
The case was registered by the Parappana Agrahara police based on a formal complaint that was lodged by the Superintendent of the Bengaluru Central Prison, who has since been suspended. The complaint named the four undertrial prisoners—Karthik alias Jitre Patrick, Dhananjay alias Renukaprasad, Manjunath V alias Koli Manja, and Charan Rao B—and sought a thorough investigation into the entire incident.

The investigation was immediately initiated to determine precisely how the prohibited items, especially the mobile phone used to record the video and the suspected alcohol, were smuggled inside the prison premises. The complaint also called for action against those responsible for transmitting the footage outside and sharing it with the media.
In a strong response to the security breach and public outrage, immediate disciplinary action was taken against the prison administration. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the Bengaluru Central Jail were suspended, and the Chief Superintendent was transferred.
Furthermore, the police have registered cases against the four inmates under the Karnataka Prisons Act, which addresses the introduction of prohibited articles into correctional facilities. The government has also formed a high-level committee to conduct a comprehensive study of prison conditions across the state.
The continuous stream of viral videos exposing privileged treatment, which included previous clips showing high-risk inmates like a serial rapist and a terror suspect using mobile phones and watching TV, has intensified the political and public debate.
The Opposition has staged protests, demanding accountability from the government. The incident has served as a clear call for more stringent monitoring, the full implementation of approved CCTVs and mobile jammers, and mandatory transfers of prison staff to prevent corruption and the creation of entrenched influence networks.
