New Delhi, December 13, 2025: Grammy Award-winning music composer Ricky Kej has publicly alleged a case of theft at his Bengaluru home, claiming that a delivery executive linked to the food platform Zomato was the culprit. The incident, which Kej described as “quite bold,” has raised significant concerns about the safety and vetting process of delivery personnel across digital platforms.

The musician took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share details of the alleged crime, which he claims occurred on a Thursday evening around 6 o’clock. In his post, Kej stated: “I was robbed! Dear @zomato @zomatocare, looks like one of your drivers entered my home on Thursday and stole our sump-cover.”

The Alleged ‘Recce’ and Theft

Kej’s detailed account suggests the act was premeditated. He claimed the individual, wearing a delivery uniform, had first visited the premises for a “recce”—an initial survey of the area—just 15 minutes before returning to commit the theft.

To support his serious allegations, the composer shared clear CCTV footage from two different angles, along with screenshots of the suspect’s face and the registration number of the two-wheeler allegedly used. This decisive action has quickly brought the incident into the public eye.

“Quite bold of them! This is probably not their first time,” Kej wrote, underscoring his belief that the individual was an experienced trespasser. He directly tagged Zomato and the Bengaluru City Police, requesting assistance in identifying the person from the shared evidence.

Zomato and Police Respond

The post quickly went viral, prompting immediate responses from both the food delivery platform and the local law enforcement.

  • Zomato’s Response: The official Zomato Care handle replied on social media, calling the allegation “really concerning.” They assured Kej that they “certainly don’t encourage such behaviour from our delivery partners” and promised an immediate investigation to take necessary action. The company also requested Kej’s contact information via a direct message to connect further on the matter.
  • Police Involvement: The Bengaluru City Police also responded, seeking the location of the incident and Kej’s contact number to proceed with a formal investigation.

Broader Safety Concerns

While the investigation into the stolen sump cover is ongoing, the incident has sparked a larger discussion online about residential security and the accountability of large digital delivery platforms. Many social media users have echoed Kej’s call for vigilance, highlighting the increasing trust placed in delivery personnel who are granted access to residential areas and even homes.

Kej, a three-time Grammy Award winner and a well-known environmental advocate, used his platform to issue a strong caution to the public: “Also, people, be vigilant. This can happen to you too!”

As authorities and Zomato work to identify the alleged thief, this high-profile case serves as a sharp reminder for all service platforms to ensure robust background checks and strict protocols for their delivery partners to protect customer safety and maintain public trust.
