Recent torrential rains have severely disrupted daily life in the Gaya district of Bihar, leading to widespread flooding and significant infrastructural damage. Many areas are grappling with severe waterlogging, causing immense hardship for residents.

A crucial bridge connecting Palkia Sherpur and Fatehpur in Sherghati city has been washed away due to the overflowing Morhar River. This incident has severed vital connectivity for local communities, creating considerable challenges for transportation and daily commutes.

The continuous downpour also triggered a landslide in the Baskatwa-Yadugram valley rail section, located on the Gaya-Koderma railway route. A large volume of debris cascaded onto the railway tracks, causing train services to be suspended for several hours. This unforeseen disruption led to prolonged delays and inconvenience for many passengers.

The impact of the heavy rains was not limited to roads and railway lines. Numerous residential areas in Gayaji experienced significant waterlogging, with several homes in the lower-lying parts of Bodhgaya being inundated. This forced residents to evacuate and seek refuge in safer locations. Farmers in Pakri Guria village are particularly distressed, as their paddy crops were completely washed away by the floodwaters, resulting in substantial economic losses.

Railway personnel and the RPF (Railway Protection Force) responded swiftly to the incident on the railway tracks. After hours of relentless effort, they successfully cleared the debris, allowing train operations to resume. Several trains were affected by the disruption, including the Dehradun Express, Hatia-Islampur Express, Dhanbad Firozpur Express, Netaji Howrah-Kalka Mail, and the Ganga-Damodar Express.

This situation underscores the intensity of the monsoon and its destructive power in Gaya, posing a significant challenge for the local administration. Relief and rescue operations are currently underway in the affected regions.
