New Delhi, December 13, 2025: In a dramatic public move, Jemima Khan (Goldsmith), the former wife of Pakistan’s jailed ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, has directed a personal and urgent appeal to X (formerly Twitter) owner, Elon Musk. The British filmmaker and socialite has asked the tech mogul to intervene against what she describes as the “secret throttling” of her social media posts, which she claims is silencing information about her ex-husband’s confinement in Pakistan.

The heart of Khan’s message is a plea for basic human rights for the former cricket star, who has been imprisoned since August 2023. She highlighted the painful personal toll on their two sons, Sulaiman Isa Khan and Qasim Khan. In her detailed post on X, Jemima Khan stated that her children have not been allowed to see, speak with, or even send letters to their father during his nearly 22 months of solitary confinement in Adiala Jail.

The Claim of ‘Secret Throttling’

Jemima Khan’s appeal to Musk focused not on prison reforms, but on digital visibility. She argued that the X platform has become the “only place left” where she can speak out about Imran Khan’s situation as a “political prisoner,” yet her voice is being suppressed.

To prove her point, she included data, allegedly from X’s own AI tool, Grok. The analysis, she claimed, confirmed that her account was being subjected to “secret throttling,” which deliberately hides her posts from a large audience. She pointed to a massive drop in engagement, showing her impressions plummeted from an average of 400-900 million per month in the previous year to just 28.6 million in total during a five-month period in 2025.

“Every time I post anything about Imran’s jail conditions, solitary confinement or my son’s access to their father, the algorithm limits the post,” she wrote, asking Musk to “honour the free-speech promises” he has made for the platform.

Context of Khan’s Detention

Imran Khan, who was ousted from power in a no-confidence vote in April 2022, is currently serving sentences related to corruption and other charges—all of which his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), vehemently rejects as politically motivated persecution. His imprisonment conditions have long been a source of controversy.

The appeal comes amidst growing international concern. Recently, a United Nations special rapporteur issued a warning that Khan is being held in conditions that “could amount to inhuman or degrading treatment.” The rapporteur highlighted that the 73-year-old former premier is reportedly confined to his cell for 23 hours a day under constant camera surveillance, and called for his solitary confinement to be lifted.

In response, Pakistani government officials have denied any mistreatment. Aides to the Prime Minister insisted that Imran Khan is being treated well as a ‘B-class’ prisoner and is provided with all facilities “greater than his rights,” including space for exercise and good food, adding that his children are free to request access through the proper channels.

For Jemima Khan, who was married to Imran Khan for nine years, the issue transcends politics. Her ongoing public campaign aims to draw global attention to the human rights of her children’s father, making her social media plea a desperate personal and political intervention.
