New Delhi, December 2, 2025: A shocking viral video depicting employees of India Post (Railway Mail Service or RMS) recklessly throwing parcels and mailbags onto railway tracks has triggered a wave of disbelief and public anger online. The footage, believed to have originated from the MBDP Junction (Pratapgarh) in Uttar Pradesh, laid bare a severe lapse in operational standards, exposing a careless attitude toward customer packages and prompting immediate action from the postal authorities.

Parcels Handled with Zero Care

The brief, impactful clip, which rapidly gained traction across social media platforms, showed staff members unloading mail from a train coach. Instead of employing standard protocols or proper equipment, employees were observed flinging the packages one by one with notable indifference onto the tracks below. The person recording the video was heard voicing shock, using the Hindi word ‘kachra’ (trash/garbage) to describe the manner in which the parcels were being handled.

The reckless disregard for the packages, many of which are known to contain fragile or high-value items, was the central cause of the public uproar. Viewers immediately expressed strong condemnation, highlighting the potential for severe damage to contents and questioning the basic professionalism of the service.

Official Response Confirms Action

Following the intense public backlash, an official response was swiftly issued by India Post. The department confirmed through its verified social media channels that cognizance had been taken of the incident shown in the viral footage. A statement was released sincerely regretting the lapse and assuring the public that necessary action had been initiated to address the serious negligence displayed by the staff.

A subsequent departmental investigation was launched and confirmed the location and authenticity of the video. The inquiry focused on identifying the individuals involved and establishing the systemic issues that led to the breach of handling protocols. Disciplinary action was confirmed to have been taken against the employees found responsible for the gross negligence.

Systemic Failure Is Identified

The internal investigation went beyond individual blame, pointing to underlying infrastructural deficiencies at the railway station as a contributing factor. It was noted that staff, reportedly working under immense pressure to meet tight dispatch deadlines, resorted to the unsafe method due to the absence of proper connectivity between the platforms and the Railway Mail Service (RMS) office.

This lack of essential infrastructure, such as a sloped ramp or footbridge suitable for trolley movement, was cited as the reason why staff were forced to cross the tracks and resort to throwing mailbags. A formal request was subsequently directed to the Divisional Railway Manager, Lucknow, urging that crucial infrastructural upgrades be prioritized to support efficient RMS operations and prevent any recurrence of such reckless handling.
