J&K CM Omar Abdullah Assures Aid, Rebuilds Hope in Shelling-Ravaged Uri

Uri, Jammu and Kashmir – In the wake of recent intense cross-border shelling that has left many homes and lives shattered, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a crucial visit to the affected areas of Uri, in the Baramulla district. His presence aimed to provide reassurance and assess the extent of the damage, while also pledging governmental support for the rebuilding process.  

Abdullah’s visit encompassed several heavily impacted regions, including Salamabad, Lagama, Bandi, and Gingal. He was accompanied by key officials, including his advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Uri Sajad Uri, and senior members of the district administration.  

Throughout his interactions with the distressed residents, Chief Minister Abdullah emphasized the government’s commitment to aiding in the reconstruction of damaged homes. “It is our responsibility to provide you help from the government so that your houses are rebuilt,” he stated, acknowledging the immense hardship faced by the people.  

The Chief Minister expressed deep empathy for the plight of the residents, noting the repeated trials they have faced. He acknowledged the resilience of the local population, who have consistently demonstrated strength in the face of adversity. He also posted on his social media platform X, that the pain of the people of Jammu and Kashmir “is deeply personal”.

    • Abdullah also stated that he would take up the demand for building individual bunkers in the shelling-affected areas with the Central government.

    • Abdullah also met with the family of Nargis Begum, who lost her life during the shelling, and expressed his condolences.
