New Delhi, December 27, 2025: A horrifying incident shook East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area on Friday when a trivial domestic argument escalated into a fatal assault, followed by a public suicide. A 35-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife following a heated dispute over just ₹20, before ending his own life by jumping in front of a moving train.
The local police have identified the deceased as Rajesh (35) and his wife, Sunita (32). The couple lived in a rented accommodation in Trilokpuri with their two young children.
According to preliminary police investigations and witness accounts from neighbors, the tragedy unfolded early Friday morning. The couple, who reportedly faced frequent financial struggles, began arguing when Rajesh demanded ₹20 from Sunita.
When Sunita refused or claimed she did not have the money, the verbal spat turned violent. In a fit of rage, Rajesh allegedly attacked Sunita with a sharp-edged kitchen tool. Despite her cries for help, the assault proved fatal. Neighbors who rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion found Sunita unresponsive in a pool of blood.
Following the murder, a panicked and distraught Rajesh fled the house. While local residents alerted the authorities and attempted to get Sunita medical attention, Rajesh headed toward the nearby railway tracks.
According to eyewitnesses at the Mandawali railway station, a man matching Rajesh’s description was seen pacing the platform anxiously before jumping in front of an oncoming local train. He died on impact.
The Delhi Police have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Forensics teams have collected evidence from the couple’s home, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations.
The most tragic victims of the incident are the couple’s children, aged 7 and 10, who were reportedly present in the house when the initial argument broke out. They are currently being cared for by relatives, and child welfare authorities have been notified to provide counseling.
