New Delhi, March 12, 2026: – The Middle East has been plunged into a state of heightened alarm as a series of drone and missile strikes, attributed to Iran, struck major civilian and diplomatic targets across the Gulf. On Thursday, March 12, 2026, dramatic footage emerged of high-rise buildings in Dubai and Bahrain engulfed in flames, while Saudi Arabia reported a drone attack targeting the diplomatic quarter of its capital, Riyadh.

The escalations mark a significant expansion of the “2026 Iran War,” which began in late February following coordinated strikes by U.S. and Israeli forces against Iranian infrastructure.

Dubai: Fires Near the Creek and Marina

In the early hours of Thursday, a precision-guided drone reportedly struck a residential tower in the Dubai Creek Harbour vicinity. According to the Dubai Media Office, emergency teams were dispatched immediately to the site.

  • Casualties: No immediate fatalities were reported from this specific strike, though minor injuries occurred during the evacuation.
  • Previous Damage: This follows earlier incidents this month where falling debris from intercepted missiles caused fires at the Burj Al Arab and hit Dubai International Airport, which sustained minor damage to Terminal 3.
  • Corporate Response: Major financial institutions, including Citigroup and Standard Chartered, have reportedly begun evacuating offices or transitioning staff to remote work as the conflict moves closer to the city’s commercial heart.

Bahrain: Skyscrapers and Refineries Under Attack

Bahrain has faced a particularly intense barrage. On Thursday, the Ministry of Interior issued an urgent “Stay Indoors” advisory for residents in the Muharraq Governorate following a massive blaze at a fuel storage facility.

Earlier footage from the capital, Manama, showed the Era Views Tower and other high-rises sustaining damage from drone impacts and falling shrapnel.

“The sounds heard across the kingdom are the result of our air defense systems intercepting hostile threats. We urge citizens to remain in their homes and close all ventilation,” the Bahraini Ministry of Interior stated.

Bahraini authorities confirmed that their air defenses have neutralised over 100 missiles and 170 drones since the conflict began.

Saudi Arabia: Diplomatic Quarter Targeted

In Riyadh, Saudi air defenses successfully intercepted a drone over the Diplomatic Quarter, an area housing numerous foreign embassies and residences. While the kingdom has managed to intercept the majority of incoming projectiles, reports indicate that at least two drones were downed over the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter earlier this week.

Regional Impact and Casualties

The human and economic toll of the retaliatory strikes is mounting:

  • Fatalities: At least six people have been killed in the UAE alone since February 28, mostly foreign nationals from Pakistan, Nepal, and Bangladesh.
  • Oil Prices: Global oil prices have surged past $100 per barrel as the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) intensified attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Disruptions: Flight operations across the Gulf have been intermittently suspended, with Dubai International Airport experiencing several hours of closure following drone threats.

International Response

The UN Security Council recently voted 13-0 in favor of a resolution demanding an immediate halt to the attacks. Meanwhile, the United States and Israel maintain that their strikes are aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities, while Tehran insists it is exercising its right to self-defense against “blatant aggression.”

As the conflict enters its third week, the once-stable business hubs of the Gulf are now facing a reality of air-raid sirens and smoke-filled skylines, with no clear path to de-escalation in sight.
