New Delhi, january 19, 2026: In a shocking development that has sent ripples through the political and social landscape of Uttar Pradesh, Prateek Yadav, the younger son of the late Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, has announced his intention to divorce his wife, Aparna Bisht Yadav.
The announcement came via a series of explosive and deeply personal posts on his official Instagram account on Monday, January 19, 2026. Prateek, who is the stepbrother of former UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, leveled serious allegations against his wife, describing her as a “selfish woman” and a “family destroyer.”
In a move that caught many by surprise, Prateek Yadav took to Instagram to express his frustration and pain regarding his marriage. His post, which quickly went viral, did not mince words:
“I am going to divorce this selfish woman as soon as possible. She ruined my family ties. All she wants to do is become famous and influential. I have never seen such a bad soul, and I was unfortunate to get married to her.”
Prateek further alleged that he is currently struggling with severe mental health issues and claimed that Aparna has remained indifferent to his condition. “Right now, I am in a very bad mental health condition, and she doesn’t bother. That’s because it’s only herself she bothers about,” he added.
The rift marks a dramatic turn for a couple whose relationship once appeared to be a fairytale within the UP power circles.
Aparna Yadav, the daughter of senior journalist Arvind Singh Bisht, made headlines in January 2022 when she crossed over from the Samajwadi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This move was seen as a significant blow to the Yadav family’s political unity at the time.
She currently serves as the Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women. While Prateek’s allegations are personal in nature, the public fallout of the marriage into the state’s most prominent political family is expected to have political overtones, especially given the historical rivalry between the SP and the BJP.
As of now, Aparna Yadav has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations or the divorce announcement. However, some sources close to her have suggested that Prateek’s account may have been compromised, though this has not been confirmed by Prateek himself.
The Samajwadi Party and the BJP have also refrained from commenting on what they describe as a “private family matter.”
