New Delhi, December 12, 2025: In a deeply distressing incident from Varanasi, a viral video recorded by a 30-year-old man, Rahul Mishra, before he died by suicide has led to the arrest of his wife and mother-in-law. The video, which has circulated widely on social media, included the heartbreaking statement from Rahul: “I don’t want anyone to take my wife to a hotel and talk to her,” pointing to severe emotional distress and alleged marital betrayal as the reason for his final act.
Rahul Mishra’s body was discovered hanging in his home in the Lohata area of Varanasi on Tuesday. Before taking this extreme step, he recorded a video of approximately seven and a half minutes. In this emotional message, Rahul broke down while alleging that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship with a man named Shubham Singh ‘Danger’.
The core of his pain, as expressed in the video, revolved around his inability to cope with the alleged infidelity, coupled with the immense grief of being separated from his minor son. He stated that he had seen an explicit video of his wife and her alleged boyfriend, which had completely shattered him. Despite his profound love for his wife and son, he felt he had “no other option left.”
Following the viral spread of the video and a complaint filed by Rahul’s mother, the Varanasi Police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Rahul’s wife, her mother, and the alleged boyfriend.
In his final video, Rahul not only detailed his personal anguish but also raised a difficult and controversial point about gender-specific laws in India. He expressed that men often face severe harassment in marital disputes and that their voices are not adequately heard. He specifically called for an amendment to Section 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with cruelty to a woman by her husband or relatives. This part of his message has ignited a broader debate on social media about the challenges and emotional toll on men in troubled marriages.
The Varanasi case serves as a tragic reminder of the devastating impact of domestic conflict and emotional stress. The police investigation is ongoing, aiming to gather all technical and circumstantial evidence related to the case and ensure that justice is served.
