New Delhi, December 15, 2025: A highly popular tourist destination, Manali, has been the focus of a viral video that alleges a shocking “snow scam” involving the creation of a misleading “Ice Point” for visitors. The footage, circulated widely by a disgruntled tourist, exposed what appears to be a meager patch of collected snow, prompting widespread outrage and claims that visitors were being deceived by tour operators promising authentic snowy landscapes.

The Deception Is Documented

The widely shared video, which has been viewed millions of times, was recorded by a tourist who expressed clear frustration after being taken to a supposed “snow point” near Manali. The video starkly contrasted the lush, snow-covered hills often advertised in promotional travel content with the harsh reality observed on the ground.

The video’s narrator was heard expressing extreme disappointment, with comments like, “More snow can be found in my refrigerator!” quickly being echoed in the comment sections, cementing the idea that a deliberate scam was being perpetrated.

Tourists Claim Misleading Practices

The incident has opened a floodgate of complaints from other tourists who claimed to have experienced similar deception. The outrage is centered on the false promises made by tour companies and local operators who guarantee a full “snow experience” but deliver a fabricated setup at a lower, snow-starved altitude. These deceptive practices often result in tourists paying exorbitant extra charges for transportation and equipment rental to access these “fake” ice points.

While some official sources pointed out that natural snow is often only found in the higher reaches, such as Gramphu or Rohtang Pass, which require separate permits and vehicles, critics argued that this crucial information was deliberately withheld or obscured by tour operators to maximize profits. The video is seen as a wake-up call to travelers planning winter visits to hill stations.

Call for Regulatory Action Is Issued

The controversy has led to widespread demands from the public and honest tourism stakeholders for the immediate regulation and monitoring of local tour operators and travel agents. Authorities have been called upon to investigate the claims of fraudulent practices and to ensure that accurate information regarding weather conditions and snow availability is provided to tourists before bookings are confirmed and payments are made.

The viral footage successfully exposed a problem that had previously only been shared anecdotally, placing significant pressure on the regional tourism industry to address the ethical responsibilities associated with marketing one of India’s most popular winter destinations.
