Twitter Verification Update: Twitter is offering the user three color verification tick

0

Twitter Verification Update: Twitter has launched its updated account verification program. Earlier, every account had a blue tick, but now there is a development in which some accounts have turned Gold. Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before the check activates.

Earlier on 26 November, CEO Elon Musk, took to the microblogging site to make the announcement. “Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week,” he had posted. He had earlier tweeted about the usage of different colors for different organizations and individuals but fleshed out the details just recently.

The microblogging platform’s ‘Twitter Blue’ subscriptions rolled out despite warnings from Twitter’s trust and safety staff. Soon afterwards, numerous ‘verified’ accounts began to impersonate well-known personalities or brands. The chaos began with a fake Nintendo account, which posted the image of the well-known game character Mario raising a middle finger at the Twitter bird.

Musk had taken the matter into his own hands and tweeted that any account that tried to impersonate someone else would be disabled unless its user declared it as a parody account. Coming to the current multi-colored verification system, Musk called it ‘painful, but necessary’. He claimed that a ‘longer explanation’ of how the system would work would come out ‘next week’.

Since Elon Musk‘s acquisition of Twitter, formed in 2006 with headquarters in San Francisco, California, for 44 billion in late October. The world’s richest man made changes to the company’s daily operations, which included firing two-thirds of Twitter’s workforce in addition to executives who were in charge of the platform’s censorship, privacy, and cyber security.

On December 9, the company began working on a software update, according to Musk, that will inform users whether they have been “shadow banned” and why. “Twitter is working on a software update that will show your true account status, so you know clearly if you’ve been shadow banned, the reason why and how to appeal,” he had tweeted.

Meaning of Meditation

These days meditation is promoted as an activity that can solve all your troubles – lowering your stress, improving your love life, boosting creativity – all in a matter of 30 minutes of practice a day and voila, you have the recipe for a stress-free life and chances of an enhanced libido.

Meditation is lucid, meditation is participation. Thoughts will always pervade the dark nooks and crannies of our minds, even when we are supposedly in meditation. The idea is to not force anything. Let the thoughts come. Watch them as the observer and allow them to leave, say a goodbye.

How to Meditate

The most important step to meditation is breathing correctly which opens up a whole new vista of awareness and tranquility. When you inhale, make sure your stomach swells with the life-giving oxygen, and during exhalation make sure your chest and stomach contract with gratitude. Keep breathing consciously till such time that you feel peaceful and blissful.

If you find the breath work much too challenging as a start, then just chant, “it’s okay”. Chant this as many times as you can to rewire your brain into feeling safe and secure. These words are a powerful mantra that, when repeatedly chanted, brings you closer to a safe place from which you may embark on a meditative adventure. Obstacles and stresses of life fade away and you’re once again a kid in a candy store.

Benefits of Meditation

Meditation not only aids in psycho-cognitive development, and keeps us stress-free, happy and healthy, it is known to be so powerful that it could be a substitute for anti-depression medication. As these anti-depressants help some patients, in the case of many, this kind of therapy proves highly dangerous and addictive.

Studies have shown amazing benefits of meditation to counter a plethora of conditions. It heals depression and other mental ailments and is known to be effective for people with bipolar disorders. On the other hand, it also benefits against an array of physical conditions like irritable bowel syndrome, psoriasis, fibromyalgia and intense migraines. When dealing with intense pain or grief or post-traumatic stress disorder, meditation is the silver lining that not only helps us cope with difficult situations, it shapes us to become pillars of support for people who depend on us, like family and community.

Serum Institute is planning to establish its 1st plant in Africa

0

Serum Institute : The world’s biggest vaccine maker, the Serum Institute of India (SII), is considering setting up its first manufacturing plant in Africa as it looks to expand globally after its success in selling COVID-19 shots, its CEO told Reuters on Monday. Africa was the only continent that did not have its manufacturing capacity for COVID-19 shots during the worst phases of the pandemic in the last two years, leaving it at the mercy of suppliers from overseas, including the SII.

“It’s never been a better time to be a vaccine manufacturer. I am looking at expanding our manufacturing across the globe,” SII Chief Executive Adar Poonawalla said during an interview at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Poonawalla said he was meeting some African officials in Davos to discuss his plans. Asked about possible investments, he said such projects typically required at least around $300 million. He did not say what products an African plant might make. Apart from COVID shots, the SII’s Indian plants make vaccines for diphtheria, BCG, measles, rubella, and other conditions.

Asked about concerns over the rise of monkeypox cases, Poonawalla said he believed the disease was not so infectious. “We’ll wait and see even if we want to make a vaccine for it,” he said.

Monkeypox is usually mild and is endemic in parts of the west and central Africa. The World Health Organization has said it expects to identify more cases as it expands surveillance in countries where the disease is not typically found.

On COVID, the SII has sold more than 1.5 billion doses in India of the AstraZeneca shot it makes and brands Covishield, and exported millions more. But as demand has now waned, the company is putting its Indian Covishield facilities on standby and will “not produce anything there”, Poonawalla said, while adding it could resume output if needed.

The SII has also pulled the plug on a plan to produce and sell about 300 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik Light COVID vaccine. However, it is still making millions of doses of a version of the Novavax COVID shot for India and other countries, Poonawalla said.

He estimated privately held SII was now valued at roughly $20 billion but said there was no immediate plan to go public.

World Parkinson’s Day, don’t ignore the symptoms of the disease

World Parkinson’s Day: Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that leads to shaking, stiffness, and difficulty with walking, balance, and coordination. As per a report on the Parkinson’s Disease Statistics, an estimated seven to 10 million people worldwide have Parkinson’s disease.

World Parkinson’s Day is observed on April 11 to create awareness of the health condition and understand the disease better.

Causes of this disease

When nerve cells in the basal ganglia of the brain that controls the movement are impaired, Parkinson’s condition develops in an individual. Usually, these nerve cells coordinate the movement in the body through a brain chemical called dopamine. When these nerve cells become impaired or die out, the release of dopamine is slowed down a result of which the patient is not able to coordinate walking, balance and other movements.

Symptoms of Parkinson’s disease

  • In this people experience tremors in the hands, arms, jaw and also in the head. This tremor is more like an involuntary rhythmic shaking or movement in the body. Tremors or shakiness can also be felt in the chin, lips, face and legs.
  • Stiffness or tightness in the limbs is often seen as a symptom of Parkinson’s disease.
  • Since the responsible nerve cells, which regulate the movement in a body, die out leading to Parkinson’s disease, the movement of a person slows down. This condition is called Bradykinesia. It is one of the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
  • Due to impaired balance and coordination, the patient loses balance and falls. With the increase in the risk of falling, the risk of disability due to the fall also increases. This can have a detrimental effect on the individual.

Risk factors

Though age is certainly the biggest risk factor, Parkinson’s disease is seen often in men. As per a report, men are 1.5 times more likely to have the disease than women. The usual age of onset of Parkinson’s disease is 60 years.

If there’s a family history of Parkinson’s disease, one may experience it at later ages as well. “About 10 to 20 percent of Parkinson’s disease cases are linked to a genetic cause,” says Ted Dawson, director of the Institute for Cell Engineering at Johns Hopkins.

The environment also plays a crucial role in this. Health experts have linked the use of pesticides, herbicides, detergents, and heavy metals to the occurrence of Parkinson’s disease.

Reduce the sodium intake can reduce the risk of chronic conditions

0

Sodium or what we usually call ‘salt’ is an integral part of our daily diet. It is what provides taste and also improves the experience of our food. About 500 mg of daily sodium intake is said to be necessary for important bodily functions. However, excess of it could also increase your risk of developing various illnesses.

As far as adults are concerned, WHO recommends they consume less than 5 g, which is just under a teaspoon of salt daily. For children, the global health agency suggests adjusting the recommended maximum intake of salt for adults downwards, as per their energy requirements.

High blood pressure

Excess sodium consumption is linked to high blood pressure. High salt intake can cause our bodies to hold onto more water, causing larger volumes of blood to flow through the blood vessels and the arteries. This increases the pressure on the blood vessels, making the heart work harder to pump blood to various parts of the body, leading to high blood pressure.

Heart Failure

According to a study published in The Lancet, reducing sodium intake could help improve certain symptoms in patients with heart failure. Although it did not lower hospital visits or deaths in them, the study found that it could ease their symptoms such as swelling, fatigue and coughing.

Stroke

High consumption of salt is linked to a greater risk of stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. A stroke occurs when the supply of blood to the part of the brain is interrupted or restricted, limiting the brain tissues from receiving oxygen and other vital nutrients. Eating high sodium foods can increase the amount of blood in the arteries, raising blood pressure and hence risking the onset of a stroke.

Coronary heart attack

Eating foods rich in sodium, especially processed and fast foods, can contribute to high rates of high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke. The US health agency suggests almost 500,000 deaths each year are related to high blood pressure, which is why reducing sodium intake could prevent thousands of deaths annually.

High blood pressure much damage the coronary arteries. It leads to the growth of plaque, a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances. Due to the formation of plaque, the arteries narrow down, leading to blood clots, which could cause a heart attack.
