New Delhi, December 24, 2025: A storm of controversy has erupted in the English cricket camp after a viral video surfaced on social media showing opening batter Ben Duckett in a state of apparent intoxication. In the footage, which began circulating this December 2025, the 31-year-old cricketer is observed appearing heavily inebriated and seemingly unable to locate his hotel room. The video was reportedly captured during a four-day break in Noosa, Queensland, taken by the squad between their second and third Test defeats against Australia.

A Tense Exchange in Noosa

The clip has been widely shared across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), depicting a disoriented Duckett engaging with a group of fans. During the interaction, the cricketer was heard slurring his words and admitting that he did not know where he was staying. A bystander was observed cheekily offering to book him an “Uber to the nets,” a stinging reference to England’s poor batting performance in the series. The situation was further aggravated by reports of a verbal spat, where Duckett was allegedly heard using offensive language toward a fan.

The ECB’s Formal Response

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) was forced into action as the video gained millions of views. A spokesperson for the board confirmed that they are currently “establishing the facts” regarding the incident. It was stated in an official release that while players are under intense public scrutiny, high expectations for professional conduct are maintained at all times. The board has clarified that established processes will be followed to address the matter once the full details of the night are confirmed.

Internal Review and “Stag Do” Claims

The viral video surfaced just hours after England’s Managing Director, Rob Key, addressed reports that the team’s Noosa getaway resembled a “stag do.” It has been alleged by British media that several players engaged in prolonged drinking sessions for five to six consecutive days. While the break was initially intended as a mental “refresh” organized by coach Brendon McCullum, it is now being scrutinized as a potential lapse in discipline. Key has emphasized that excessive alcohol consumption is “completely unacceptable” for an international sports team, especially amidst a disastrous 3-0 series deficit.

A Campaign in Turmoil

This incident has added a fresh layer of misery to what has been a nightmare Ashes tour for the visitors. Having lost the urn in just 11 days of play, the team now faces accusations of lack of focus and professionalism. The viral footage of Duckett, who previously faced disciplinary action on a 2017-18 tour for a similar alcohol-related incident, has become a symbol of the team’s off-field struggles. As the squad prepares for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, the focus has shifted from tactical improvements to damage control and disciplinary inquiries.
