Fujifilm has announced the launch of the instax mini LiPlay+ hybrid instant camera, an exciting update to its popular LiPlay series that blends digital photography with the nostalgic, tangible appeal of instant film. The new model builds on the original’s success by introducing a host of innovative features, most notably a dual-camera system and enhanced audio integration, solidifying its position as a versatile and creative tool for image-makers.

The mini LiPlay+ maintains the core “hybrid” functionality of its predecessor, allowing users to capture images digitally, review them on the rear LCD screen, and then selectively print their favorites onto credit card-sized instax mini film. This digital-first approach means no wasted film and the ability to reprint cherished images multiple times.

Key Upgrades for a Modern User

The most significant addition to the mini LiPlay+ is the dual-camera functionality. Alongside the front-facing main camera, the new device features a rear-facing wide-angle selfie camera. This allows users to effortlessly capture both traditional shots and group selfies. Furthermore, a new Layered Photo Mode empowers users to combine images taken with both the front and rear cameras into a single, creative print, with one photo appearing in the foreground and the other in the background.

The camera’s celebrated sound integration feature has also been improved. Users can still record short audio clips (up to 3 seconds) at the moment of capture, which is then converted into a printable QR code on the instant photo. Scanning this QR code with a smartphone brings the memory to life with sound. New to this generation is the instax Sound Albumâ„¢ feature via the companion app, which allows for the creation of custom animated videos by combining up to five photos with associated sound clips, vibrant backgrounds, and music.

Design and Smart Connectivity

Fujifilm has also refined the camera’s design, opting for a more squared-off and stylish aesthetic. The rear display is now a slightly larger 3-inch LCD, aiding in composition and review. Connectivity remains seamless via Bluetooth and the free, downloadable instax mini LiPlay+ Smartphone App. This app allows for remote shooting, adding filters, frames, and text overlays, and the ability to print photos directly from a connected smartphone’s camera roll. Users can also choose between instax-Rich Mode and instax-Natural Mode to fine-tune the color output of their prints.

Available in stylish Sand Beige and Midnight Blue color options, the instax mini LiPlay+ is set to hit shelves later this month. Its combination of digital flexibility and instant film output makes it a compelling option for those looking to curate their memories with both visual flair and auditory depth. In conjunction with the camera launch, Fujifilm is also introducing a new film stock, the instax mini Soft Glitter instant film, featuring gold accents and soothing hues on the frame borders.
