New Delhi, December 04, 2025: Samsung’s next major software update, One UI 8.5, is shaping up to be one of the most significant mid-cycle upgrades in the platform’s history. Thanks to recent leaks from reliable sources detailing the full changelog, Galaxy users have an early peek at a host of new features that prioritize artificial intelligence, productivity, and cross-device harmony across phones and tablets.
This update, expected to launch widely in early 2026 alongside the new Galaxy S26 series, promises major quality-of-life improvements that will feel transformative for daily use.
Galaxy AI, which debuted in One UI 7, is receiving a substantial boost in version 8.5. The most notable AI feature is Continuous Image Generation within Photo Assist. Previously, creating AI images required saving each version before generating a new one. The leaked update will allow users to generate multiple AI images consecutively without interruption, keeping a history of all creations so you can review and select your favorites when finished.
The often-overlooked virtual assistant, Bixby, is also becoming genuinely smarter. The updates suggest Bixby will be able to handle more natural conversational language, making it better at finding the exact setting or feature you need even if you don’t use precise commands. It will also offer instant, context-aware answers to complex questions, reducing the need to switch between multiple apps or conduct separate Google searches.
For users who juggle multiple Samsung devices, One UI 8.5 is introducing a long-awaited connectivity feature: Storage Share. This tool essentially creates a unified file system across your entire Samsung ecosystem. Files from your Galaxy phones, tablets, and even your connected PCs will be accessible directly through the My Files app on your primary device, making cross-device workflow smoother than ever.
Productivity also gets a boost through improvements to DeX, Samsung’s desktop environment for tablets and foldable phones. DeX will now remember your app window sizes and positions. When you reconnect or relaunch an app in DeX mode, it will open exactly where you left it, saving valuable setup time. Other minor but welcome additions include Partial Screen Recording, which lets you select only a specific area of the screen to record, and new shortcuts to quickly mirror your screen via Smart View.
One UI 8.5 is set to tackle battery management and customization head-on. The Battery settings screen is being revamped for clarity, offering a cleaner, more detailed look at your remaining time, charging status, and daily usage history for the past week.
The improved Power Saving mode will now offer two distinct tiers:
Finally, the Quick Panel—the menu accessed by swiping down from the top—will become more customizable. Users will gain the ability to freely add, remove, reorder, and reorganize individual controls, allowing for a truly personalized experience.
While these features are based on pre-release firmware and may change, the detailed nature of the leaks suggests they are largely finalized. The One UI 8.5 beta program is rumored to begin rolling out to flagship Galaxy devices, likely including the Galaxy S25 series, as soon as December in select markets. The stable public release is anticipated to launch globally in early 2026, starting with Samsung’s next generation of Galaxy devices before reaching compatible phones and tablets in the subsequent months.
