A promotional event for the upcoming film Housefull 5 in Pune took a distressing turn on Sunday, as a massive crowd surged, leading to a near stampede situation where several women and children were seen crying and struggling amidst the chaos. Actor Akshay Kumar, known for his calm demeanor, had to intervene and appeal directly to the frenzied crowd, urging them with folded hands, “Dhakka dhukki mat kariye, please. Haath jod ke vinanti karta hoon, yaha auratein hai, bacche hai (Please don’t push and shove. I request with folded hands, there are women and children here).”

The event, held at a packed mall, saw fans overflowing from the designated area into corridors and upper floors, all eager to catch a glimpse of the star-studded Housefull 5 cast, which included Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Bajwa, Nargis Fakhri, Soundarya Sharma, and Fardeen Khan.

Videos circulating on social media captured the alarming scenes. Young girls and women could be seen visibly distressed, with some crying as the pressure from the crowd intensified. In a particularly poignant moment, a young girl was separated from her parents near the stage and was seen sobbing uncontrollably. Jacqueline Fernandez promptly noticed the distressed child and was seen comforting her, assuring her and her worried family of her safety. This compassionate gesture by the actress garnered widespread praise online.

Akshay Kumar, observing the escalating situation, quickly took the microphone. His voice, though calm, carried a firm plea for order and safety. The palpable tension on stage was evident, with other cast members also looking visibly concerned by the overwhelming crowd.

Following Kumar’s intervention and the efforts of the security team to regain control, the situation eventually subsided. The cast then proceeded with the event as planned, interacting with fans and even engaging in lively performances like the traditional Maharashtrian ‘fugdi’ dance, attempting to bring back the joyous spirit of the promotional tour.

While such enthusiastic fan receptions are common for Bollywood celebrities, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of uncontrolled crowd management at public events. The well-being of attendees, especially vulnerable groups like women and children, must remain paramount. The incident at the Housefull 5 event in Pune highlights the need for stringent safety measures and meticulous crowd control planning to ensure that promotional events remain enjoyable and secure for all.

Housefull 5, a highly anticipated comedy film, is scheduled to hit theaters on June 6, 2025.
