April 7, 2026 – Volkswagen India has officially signaled the arrival of the much-anticipated 2026 Taigun Facelift, announcing that production is now underway at its Chakan facility in Pune. This milestone comes alongside the release of the “first look” official images, revealing a sharper, more sophisticated aesthetic for the mid-size SUV that first took the Indian market by storm in 2021.
The new Taigun is scheduled for a formal market launch on April 9, 2026, where pricing across all variants will be disclosed.
The 2026 Taigun moves away from its purely rugged roots toward a more premium, “mini-Tiguan” appearance. The most striking updates are at the front:
While the full interior layout will be detailed during the launch, Volkswagen has confirmed several high-end additions designed to close the gap with its rivals:
Under the hood, the Taigun retains its acclaimed TSI turbocharged petrol engines, but with a significant twist in the transmission department:
| Engine | Power / Torque | Transmission Options |
| 1.0L TSI (3-cyl) | 115 PS / 178 Nm | 6-speed MT / New 8-speed AT |
| 1.5L TSI (4-cyl) | 150 PS / 250 Nm | 6-speed MT / 7-speed DSG |
The replacement of the older 6-speed torque converter with a new 8-speed automatic for the 1.0L engine is expected to provide smoother shifts and improved fuel efficiency, making it more competitive against the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Volkswagen continues to lean on its safety reputation. The facelift comes standard with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and multi-collision braking. While it misses out on Level 2 ADAS, it gains all-wheel disc brakes on the GT variants and improved parking sensors.
