MG Windsor Pro Launched: Price, Features, Battery, and All Important Details

JSW MG Motor India has today launched the much-anticipated MG Windsor Pro, an upgraded version of their popular Windsor EV. Since its debut in September 2024, the MG Windsor EV has become India’s best-selling electric car, with over 20,000 units sold. The new Windsor Pro aims to build on this success with enhanced features, a longer range, and more technology. Here’s a comprehensive look at what the Windsor Pro has to offer:  

Battery and Range

The most significant upgrade in the Windsor Pro is its larger 52.9 kWh battery pack. This is a substantial increase from the existing Windsor EV’s 38 kWh battery. This bigger battery is expected to significantly boost the driving range, potentially exceeding 450+ km on a single charge. While the official ARAI-certified range is yet to be announced, this increase positions the Windsor Pro as a strong contender in terms of range within its segment. The Windsor Pro retains the same Permanent Magnet Synchronous (PMS) motor as the standard Windsor, producing 134 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque, and is IP67 certified for durability.  

New Features and Technology

The MG Windsor Pro comes packed with new and upgraded features, focusing on technology, safety, and convenience:

• Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): This is a significant addition, expected to include features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, traffic jam assist, and automatic emergency braking, enhancing safety and driving comfort.  
• Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) Charging: The inclusion of V2L technology allows the Windsor Pro to power external electronic devices, while V2V charging enables it to transfer charge to other electric vehicles in need.  
• Upgraded Interiors: The cabin of the Windsor Pro features a new, more premium beige color scheme for the seats, replacing the all-black interiors of the standard model. Faux wood trim and copper accents are also expected to enhance the upscale feel.  
• New Alloy Wheels: The exterior design remains largely similar to the existing Windsor EV, but the Pro variant gets a new design for the dual-tone alloy wheels, giving it a distinct look.  
• Enhanced Comfort and Convenience: Features carried over from the standard Windsor EV include a large 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and aero-lounge rear seats with a 135-degree recline. A powered tailgate is also expected.  

Pricing and Variants

While the official pricing has just been announced, the MG Windsor Pro is expected to be positioned above the current top-spec Essence variant of the Windsor EV, which ranges between ₹14 lakh and ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom). Industry experts predict the starting price of the Windsor Pro to be upwards of ₹20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Like the standard Windsor EV, the Pro version is also expected to be offered with a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, potentially making the initial cost lower with a monthly battery rental fee.

Competition

The MG Windsor Pro will compete with other upcoming and existing electric vehicles in the Indian market, including the Hyundai Creta EV and the Tata Curvv EV. With its increased range and advanced features like ADAS and V2L/V2V, the Windsor Pro aims to be a strong contender in this growing segment.
