New Delhi, February 13, 2026: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited and a premier Miniratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), has officially released its recruitment notification for 2026. The company is inviting online applications for the regular appointment of Assistant Foreman (Trainee) Grade-C posts.

This recruitment drive is a significant opportunity for 10th-pass candidates who also hold a relevant diploma in engineering. With a total of 270 vacancies across various technical disciplines, this remains one of the most anticipated job openings in the coal mining sector this year.

Vacancy Breakdown: Discipline-Wise Openings

The vacancies are distributed across three primary engineering branches. The recruitment aims to fill positions in both the Excavation and the Electrical & Mechanical (E&M) cadres.

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

NCL has set clear guidelines regarding the educational and age requirements for these supervisory roles.

1. Educational Qualifications

Candidates must meet the following dual requirements:

  • Matriculation: Must have passed the 10th standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
  • Diploma: A minimum 3-year Diploma in the relevant engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, or Electronics) from a government-recognized institute.
  • Higher Education: Candidates with higher qualifications like B.E. or B.Tech in the respective branches are also eligible to apply, provided they meet the basic matriculation criteria.

2. Age Limit (as of March 5, 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 18 Years
  • Maximum Age: 30 Years (for General/UR candidates)
  • Age Relaxation: * OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 3 Years
    • SC/ST: 5 Years
    • PwBD (General): 10 Years (further relaxation for reserved PwBD categories)

Salary and Training Period

Selected candidates will join as Assistant Foreman (Trainee) Grade-C.

  • Monthly Basic Pay: Approximately ₹47,330.25 during the training period.
  • Additional Benefits: In addition to the basic pay, employees are entitled to Dearness Allowance (DA), HRA, Transport Subsidy, Attendance Bonus, and specialized medical facilities as per the National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA) XI.
  • Training Duration: 1 year for E&T and 2 years for Mechanical/Electrical disciplines.

Selection Process

The selection will be strictly based on merit derived from a Computer-Based Test (CBT). There is no interview stage for these posts.

  • Exam Duration: 90 Minutes
  • Total Marks: 100
  • Syllabus Structure:
    • Section A (70 Marks): Technical knowledge related to the specific engineering discipline.
    • Section B (30 Marks): General Intelligence, Mental Ability, Aptitude, and General Awareness.
  • Marking Scheme: Each question carries 1 mark. Notably, there is no negative marking in this exam.

    • General/OBC/EWS: ₹1,180 (₹1,000 + ₹180 GST)
    • SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen: Exempted from fee payment.
