He says, “I feel television screen or Bollywood is a perfect way to encourage people about Tabla. Tabla is the most famous percussion instrument of North India. It is most commonly used in North Indian classical music, but its versatility in all musical styles has enabled it to become the most popular percussion instrument in all of India.
The level of sophistication and tonal beauty it possesses has elevated the instrument to an unmatched status in the world of percussion. Tabla, a set of two drums, is the modern caretaker of an ancient rhythmic tradition that is perhaps 5000 years old in a part of the world that is considered the birthplace of civilization. I will try to touch on a few aspects that will hopefully illuminate an instrument that for many people is both exotic and fascinating,” Verma said in his statement.
Being a fusion musician for 18 years now, I feel I wanted to connect the youngsters to classical music, so I tried to create a certain kind of form based on classical music. I tried to make my fusion music & covering Hollywood songs on Tabla appealing to all kinds of audiences, even to those who do not prefer or don’t know much about classical music. I always attempted to win the hearts of the audiences towards classical music, to move towards classical music and I believe that my form of fusion music is a bridge for that.
Pasi Harshit hails from Lucknow and is a professional Percussionist, he uploads covers of various songs and also has been collaborating with various artists from the industry.
Online gigs during this covid-19 pandemic
Harshit Says, I have been ideating and covering songs on Tabla, dholak & Cajon, Sometimes whenever I feel the need, I use 2-3 instruments in a cover as well. Many Musicians & Performers had a packed schedule of performances across the State lined up for them when the COVID-19 outbreak happened. Forced to cancel them all. With concerts canceled, musicians and bands are reaching out to the public, and even gaining a newer audience, through online gigs & by posting their contents online. The aim was not to just entertain, but also to engage with an audience. We play all our songs and we play according to the song requests from people. It has been a beautiful experience for us.
