In a story that seems straight out of a cinematic script, Monalisa Bhosle—the young woman who became an overnight sensation at the 2025 Mahakumbh Mela—has made headlines again. This time, it isn’t for her striking amber eyes or her life as a garland seller, but for a high-stakes escape to Kerala to marry her partner, actor-model Farman Khan.

The union, which took place on Wednesday at a temple in Thiruvananthapuram, has sparked a nationwide conversation about personal freedom, interfaith relationships, and the “Real Kerala Story.”

From the Banks of the Narmada to the Spotlight

Originally from the Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, Monalisa’s journey to fame began at the Kila Ghat on the banks of the Narmada River. However, it was her appearance at the Prayagraj Mahakumbh that changed her life forever. A video of her selling rudraksha beads and garlands went viral, with millions captivated by her “Mona Lisa-like” features.

The viral fame quickly transitioned into career opportunities. Monalisa was cast in the upcoming film The Diary of Manipur and was in Kerala recently to shoot her Malayalam debut, Nagamma.

The Escape and the Stand-off

The marriage follows a period of intense family drama. Monalisa and Farman Khan, an actor from Maharashtra, reportedly met on Facebook over a year ago. Their relationship faced stiff opposition from Monalisa’s father, Jai Singh Bhosle, primarily due to their different religious backgrounds.

While Monalisa was filming in Poovar, Kerala, her father allegedly tracked her down and attempted to forcibly take her back to Indore to marry a relative chosen by the family. Refusing to succumb to the pressure, the couple sought refuge at the Thampanoor Police Station.

“She insisted that she would not go with her father and made it clear that she is going to marry her boyfriend. As she is a major, she can act according to her choice,” a police official stated.

A Temple Wedding in “God’s Own Country”

Following the police intervention, the couple headed to the Arumanoor Sri Nainaar Deva Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. In a simple yet symbolic ceremony:

  • Monalisa wore a traditional red saree with sindoor.
  • Farman Khan donned a white shirt and a mundu (traditional Kerala dhoti).

The wedding was attended by prominent Kerala political figures, including Education Minister V. Sivankutty and CPI(M) State Secretary MV Govindan. Minister Sivankutty later described the event as “the real Kerala story,” emphasizing the state’s atmosphere of communal harmony and respect for constitutional rights.
