February 11, 2026 — The glitz of Bollywood has been hit by a chilling security scare as superstar Ranveer Singh becomes the latest target of a high-stakes extortion attempt. On Tuesday, February 10, the actor reportedly received a threatening WhatsApp voice note from an unidentified sender demanding a ransom running into several crores of rupees.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the film industry, especially as it follows closely on the heels of a violent shooting incident outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence just weeks ago.
According to Mumbai Police sources, the extortion demand was delivered directly to the actor’s team via a digital voice message. The sender allegedly warned of “severe consequences” if the astronomical sum was not paid.
The threat was serious enough for Ranveer to immediately alert the authorities. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch and the Cyber Cell have now launched a joint investigation. Technical teams are currently:
In response to the threat, a ring of steel has been thrown around the actor’s residence in Central Mumbai, which he shares with his wife, Deepika Padukone, and their daughter, Dua.
Beyond the deployment of additional Mumbai Police personnel, the couple has hired six private armed security guards for 24/7 protection. However, this has led to a minor internal dispute; the housing society’s managing committee recently wrote to the police expressing “serious concern” regarding the presence of armed personnel in common areas like the lobby, gym, and children’s play zones.
The timing of the threat is particularly concerning for investigators. It comes less than two weeks after five rounds were fired at Rohit Shetty’s Juhu home on January 31—an attack for which the Bishnoi gang purportedly claimed responsibility.
“We are exploring if this is a coordinated attempt to intimidate the industry or a standalone extortion bid following the actor’s recent massive box-office success,” stated a senior police official.
Ironically, these threats arrive during Ranveer Singh’s most successful professional phase. His recent spy thriller, Dhurandhar, shattered records to become the first Hindi film to cross ₹1,000 crore net in India. With the sequel, Dhurandhar 2, slated for a March 19, 2026 release, experts believe the actor’s rising financial stature has unfortunately made him a primary target for organized crime.
As the probe continues, the Mumbai Police remain on high alert, ensuring that both the actor’s home and his upcoming film sets are under constant surveillance.
